What a delightful surprise in Bancroft! Passed this place many times and never considered eating here( or saw that it was a restaurant) until a friend told us about it. Dinner for 6- made reservations-good thing because it was full. It's not a large place so reservations are wise. It was a funky little place that I felt right at home in. Since I'm writing this way too late, all I can remember is having their amazing tomato soup( and fresh bread) - best ever ! We drank wine and didn't feel rushed as we lingered at all. It is a couple who own and run this business and I was astounded they had quietly been there for 6 years !
We will most certainly be back!

We have eaten at the Blue Roof Bistro over half a dozen times over the years and havealways been very pleased. The food and service are first rate, and the prices are very reasonable. We stuck with our favourites - the dinner and dessert crepes - again, but we certainly plan to try the other dishes on future visits.

Incidentally, Susan also makes excellent gin martinis.

The restaurant was fully booked on the Thursday evening we were there, so we were glad that we reserved a table before our trip to Bancroft. This is a very popular eatery, but also fairly small, so reservations are a virtual necessity on Fridays and Saturdays. I strongly recommend reservations or the other evenings as well..

The Blue Roof has just 6 tables and they fill up quickly! We were the first to arrive for dinner and had our choice of seats. Shortly after, the place filled up with both visitors and locals.

We had a lot of trouble choosing from the menu as everything sounded so good. We chose the tomato soup and Feta & Spinach pasta with rose sauce and added roast chicken. The soup was amazing!! We sadly had no room left for dessert but had been staring at the dessert menu on the wall throughout our meal, intending to have one of their crepes.. oh well, next time :)

The sign outside "Really Good Food -->" leaves just one thing out. It's actually, Really Good Food made with love.

We were greeted by a very friendly hostess who made our entire experience so very pleasant. The lunch special of homemade soup and sandwich with local ingredients was delicious and filling. A southwestern salad was above the ordinary with their signature lime dressing. Everyone in this small bistro seemed to be enjoying their lunches as much as we were!

Blue Roof has a small and intimate setting. My spouse and I went with a friend who had previously been to Blue Roof. The Blue Roof staff remembered my friend's order from his previous visit and what he prefers in his calzone. The food was fresh and the staff was attentive without being intrusive. What a great place for casual dining! Would definitely visit again if we are in Bancroft.
