We love this park. We've camped there many times and gone up for day trips many times as well. The lake is great - quiet - no power boats - perfect for canoeing. Very nice hikes, especially the one that runs all around the lake.

Our family has gone camping at Silent Lake for the last 10 years or so - usually with at least two other families. It tends to be quite a little more family oriented at this park.
The Lake: The lake is so named because it does not allow motorized boating at all on the lake. The lake itself takes about 5 hours to circle by hiking and it is a land locked lake (fed by streams).
Camp sites: There 167 camp sites. Camp sites are on several looping ring roads. The condition of sites are typically clean. Staff regularly come around and monitor the sites (even during the night and early morning I am told). Staff will also come around to clean up sites a bit if necessary. The quality of each site (space, privacy) is variable. In general, most people are reasonably considerate, but since you are sharing a space with others you do not know, you have to realize that noise does carry and people are not on your schedule.
Beaches: There are two beaches - a campers beach and a day trip beach. The day beach has a bigger parking lot and out house type facilities. The campers beach has less parking and 4 separate unisex toilets (reasonably clean, but no interior lights) Both beaches are small in terms of lengh and depth but have always been adequate for the number of people. Shade is hard to come by so bring an umbrella. The best part is that the water is clean and the beach area is shallow so kids have a good time swimming. There is no life guard so you must watch your children carefully. The park will provide a life jacket (at the camping beach canoe rental area) for free to small children for swimming. For more adventure, on both sites there is a raft out past the shallow boundary to go swim and jump off.
Comfort: There are two comfort faciliites which contain flush toilets, a coin laundry, and 4 unisex individual showers. They are typically reasonably clean and open all the time. Cleaning happens in early morning.
Supplies: Since you are (car) camping, bring as much as you can yourself, but in the event you forget something, the gate house has some very basic supplies such as bug spray, t-shirts, ice ($2.25), fire wood ($7). If you need more, there is general store nearby or else Bancroft is about 25km north.
Bugs: Mosquitos have always been my bane, but this year, due to the dryness, there were fewer of them, so it was the best year that I can recall for pests, but, depending on weather, it can be bad so pack the repellent.
Overall: Good exposure to the outdoors for families.

We shared a campsite with one other family at Silent Lake Provincial Park, ON and it was a wonderful experience! The kids enjoyed the outdoors and the adults relished the time away from city life.

The facilities were clean, beach was decent and the canoe rentals were affordable. The park itself is very well-kept. Park rangers were regularly on-site patrolling so there was a sense of security in that.

There were some issues with mosquitoes. We were there for 2 nights and 3 days. Night 1 was pretty good. As long as we had our bug repellent on and the citronella going, the mosquitoes left us alone, but the 2nd night was another story -- mosquitoes were out in full force!

Aside from the pesky mosquitoes, overall we had a great time. Definitely would go back again! In total we had 4 adults, and 4 kids. The ages of the kids were: 10, 7, 6 and 3. We all enjoyed our stay.
