“Excellent place to stay, great customer service.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2011

Stayed in the main building, got a great rate through their web specials. Did the dogsledding tour, snowshoeing, spa, and went to the pool. Also went to the Maple and Eclipse dining rooms and thought the food was very good for the price.

Customer service overall was excellent with all the resort staff at the different venues being really nice, including the shuttle driver and the concierge. Thanks to Deb at Maple dining room, the spa staff, and Brody in management (who went above and beyond to help me with a very minor problem!!) for your great customer service.

Nice resort the rooms were clean and the staff friendly and helpfull. I think all rooms have a balcony . We snow shoed, cross country skied , we're first timers for both these . The fee for the snow shoe rental was only $5 per day and we were not charged for our cross country skies .We also did some ice skating and swam in the pool . There was only one restaurant open since the resort was empty ( it was the week before March break) but the food was good and reasonably priced. Huntsville main street in only a 10 minute drive away if you want to eat out . Walmart is also close if you need anything .
Overall it was a nice clean resort . Nice decor , we stayed in the main building since it's easier to get to all the restaurants and activities in the winter. You don't need to bundle up to get dinner. Very relaxing ,if you want more excitement there is a shuttle to the skie hills near by .

Location was beautiful however the cost of "adventure activities" was not worth it. Would never have checked them out if we did not have the free credits with the packages we selected. Almost nothing offered to those of us staying past the weekend. Cross-Country skiing went from boring and easy to challenging. No discounts for local provincial parks which would have been great b/c the hiking was minimal but good at Deerhurst. Live show was amazing and worth the cost. Food at the restaurants was very good and worth the money. We stayed in a suite to cook our own food and they did not even provide a simple flipper / cooking spoon / strainer....we couldn't believe it.

I was at the Deerhurst resort with my family over Family Day weekend. We were accompanied by 5 other families bringing the total number of guests to 24. I highly recommended Deerhurst to them having been there with a work conference many years ago. We booked 6 rooms (3 of them large suites) and prepaid our trip over a month in advance. During our booking we had many issues such as being told that there were no suites in the main building AT ALL when in fact we ended up booking 3 and i know there were 2 more in the building.

When we arrived there, I was surprised that there was no staff in the lobby to greet us. No bell captain or help with luggage. There was a long lineup at the chec kin which was somewhat expected being a holiday weekend. We went up to our rooms (which were clean and well kept) and then went out tubing. There were only a few tubes on the tubing hill and no staff. The location of the hill meant that anyone could come off the road even if not a guest resort and lineup for a tube. When we came back from tubing, we wanted hot chocolate at the lobby bar. We sat down and when no one came to serve us a few of us got up and went to the bar to order the hot chocolate. 20 minutes later we went back to check (I am not kidding - there was no server in sight!!) and they told us they were out of cocoa. Another half hour later (we really needed that chocolate or at least our kids did!!) 4 chocolates were served out of 16 ordered and we were informed they were looking for cups. We complained and the staff reluctantly agreed to send the chocolate up to our room. It finally showed 1 and 1/2 hour after the initial order.

At dinner that night at the Eclipse retaurant, it took approx an hour after the order for our appetizers to show (this was after an assurance from the food and beverage manager that we would be taken care of after the bad experience at the bar). Oh and every time we asked to speak to the general manager we were told that there is no manager at the hotel - just supervisors!!! What kind of resort is this I wonder!! THe food at the Eclipse was quite good - I think the service ECLIPSED it totally though. The next morning after one of our suites had been serviced there were still grease marks quite evident on the coffee table because of a bunch of our kids eating snacks and playing games. I had to call down to have the table cleaned!

The worst nightmare however began after we had left the resort. When we checked out, we went through the long line at the front desk to get our bill printed. We were each given a copy of the bill for each of our rooms. The following two days various charges are showing up on my card and a friends card in the amount of 100s of dollars even though after the activity credit we got we each should not have paid more than $100 for the 2 meals we consumed at the hotel. We spent all MOnday and Tuesday trying to get an answer from the management about this. Amanda and Morgan at the front desk are probably the most incompetent and unfriendly employees I have come across in my various stays at many 5 and even 7 star properties around the world. I left a message for the accounting manager Susan and for their General manager Jodi but have yet to hear back 4 days later!!!! I would avoid this resort like the plague in the future. ALthough the property is gorgeous and I have many fond memories of staying there many years ago I would never go up there again nor recommend it to anyone until they have a complete rehaul of their personnel

We visited Deerhurst for Family day weekend, here is the quick overview.

Elipse Restaurant Dinner - Nice dinner, however could have had a much better meal for the amount of money we spent at other . Not worth the price.

Brunch - There is only 1 restaurant for the entire resort severing brunch/breakfast - = Long waits, and very poor service.

Maple Restaurant - Wow - what a dissapointment, cramped seats, poor service, bad food - felt like the meal can out of a box or a can - not good.

Hospitality - The staff all needs a lesson in what a hour star resort needs to do to meet and exceed clients expectations - I felt like we were at a holiday inn.

Overall - Very dated resort and rooms.

Great place, great customer sevice.

Definitly I will recomend this place to relax and enjoy.
I cannot recomend the buffet dinner. Overpriced for the food offered.

There are 3 different places in the hotel to have dinner.

We srayed in building 1 river virew room: great room and great view.

My family have just arrived home from one of the most memorable, heart-warming holidays we have ever had! We have two daughters, ages 9 and 7 and we spent our Family Day Weekend together with my parents (70+), staying in the Bayshore Building. From the moment we arrived at the reception desk at 8:00 Friday night from the time we checked out this morning, our holiday was so much more because of the service and joy the staff at Deerhurst provided us.
I do have to give you some examples of what we experienced:
Shortly after 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning, my father (70+) and I went to the reception desk to see where the nearest service station was as his tire was flat. The young gentleman at the desk was eager to provide us with a map, however, he asked what the problem was, wondering if Deerhurst could help! We needed a compressor and with one phone call he assured us someone would help in about 5-10 minutes (with a smile and very happy to help).
Everyone providing us with shuttle service (especially Don, as we had him the most) greeted us with a smile and they were willing to answer any questions we had, as well, just all around great, genuine people!
Our experience at the Eclipse restaurant was truly pleasant and pampering. Our waitress, Dora, on Saturday night was jovial, always available and again, just a true heart ready to help. Robert greeted us for brunch Sunday morning and he couldn't have done a better job (even if he had an assistant - every step meant something and it was like a dance!). He was over-the-top kind and he knew exactly how many had been seated, how many were to come and he was already working on the parties waiting way down the line. Wow! Robert had a sincere, pleasant good-bye recognizing our placement in the wait line.
We set away a pair of skates for my father to rent. Done in minutes. The gentleman working in the tuck shop was always friendly, smiling and asking how our experience was (we went snowshoeing and skating). Ian in the back was always helpful to send us on the right path!
My husband left his cell phone in the men's stall in the Pavillion. When we called to report it, it was literally minutes and security was at our door at the Bayshore building ready to retrieve our information to really see if it was ours. He too had a smile on his face, genuinely happy to help!
These are some of our service experiences that we enjoyed this past weekend and we were so delighted to have our young daughters witness this.
Just to mention a mere example of what we had to see over our shoulders -- some gentlemen demanding gas at the reception desk as that same young man (who got us our compressor) dealt with them as he was also handling two other patrons. He treated them with such dignity and a smile , regardless of how demanding they were.
The staff working at the Deerhurst Resort treated everyone with so much dignity and respect and pleasantly helped everyone.
We have travelled many places and have never been so heart-warmed by the staff and servicing provided at Deerhurst.
My husband and I have a cottage not 30 minutes away. As well, my parents' cottage and my brother's cottage are close and many of our extended family have cottages very close to the Deerhurst Resort. It is with so much happiness that we will forever brag about our experience at the Deerhurst Resort for our Family Day Weekend. Without question we will be booking for next year!
To the Deerhurst Resort staff: Thank you all for your graciousness and may you be so proud of yourselves for all that you provided for so many this memorable holiday weekend!!!
