We spent the last week end at Deerhurst resort. We wanted to escape the city, to relax and enjoy the outdoor. We had a a king bedroom suite summit lodge. It was a fairly new renovated room. We like the living room with brick wall and fireplace. Also, there was a very functional kitchenette.

The bedroom had nice furniture et was decorated with taste. The bed was very comfortable. A lot more, than Sheraton or Marriott beds.

We had the opportunity to borrow snow shoe and we headed to the look out. A 20 minutes trail that was quite easy and we had a great view on the property and the lake. We had a drink at the lobby bar, it was ok , but there was a lack of waiting staff. They were rushing and running, but in the end they very nice.

The day after, we did some X-country ski. The guy at sports center was nice and very helpful. The trail aren't not too long and not in perfect condition but fair. We had lot of fun. The sun was shinning , we enjoyed the outdoor.

That was the goals of the week end and Deerhurst resort met all our expectations.

Only minor bad thing: lots of dent and lack of maintenance for a fairly new renovated room. It will not stay nice for many years.

Stayed in the Summit Suites and was pleasantly surprised by the comfort and amenities. Nice shirt stroll from the main pavilion and awesome view of dog sledders off the balcony. Pool was warm and inviting and loungers were plentiful. The hot tub was far too small for a winter crowd and would suggest they turn the toddler pool into one to accommodate the numbers. Restaurant reservations at Eclipse where the service was exceptional and food very good. Check out time of 1100 was a bit early I thought. Would return to this facility but probably inthe summary and would stay for longer to enjoy the area.

A friend of mine and myself went up to deerhurst to get together and enjoy the snow before the season wraps up. We arrived on friday late afternoon . We went to checkin and were warmly greated by the front desk staff and quickly got our room keys and a warm welcoming smile. Room was awesome and include a kitchenet, each room had private bathroom with Jacuzzi/shower and tv in bedrooms as well as main living area.spotless clean rooms and had real nice hand soup and hand cream as well as shampoo and conditions. (Really made you feel nice and special). For our 1st meal we went to the main restaurant and had a deliciously prepared meal, service was great and the food extremely good, the deserts were to die for and the wine selection gets top marks.for breakfast we ate the buffet which had lots of hot and cold choices.I tryed a little of everything and the eggs benidict was my favorite. After meal we went on an excursion with the snowmobiling organization referred to us by deerhurst resorts. This excursion was very well organized and the guys there were real friendly and informative. We recieved training and then hit the trails for 3 plus hours , thus was so much fun that we have decided to make it a yearly event. After sledding , we went up towards Algonquin park (hour plus drive) and snow shoed into the bush , it was so peaceful and serine. Was first time snow shoing and would suggest everyone give it a try. Saturday night we went to a show at the resort and saw decades a musical that had us taping are toes and singing, the cast and crew were amazing. Sunday we decided to skidoo again , and rent some sleds just outside Huntsville. We picked them up at 830am and skidood till 130pm and had traveled over 140 km in that time, which took us to the eastern edge of Algonquin park and back, you must try the trail system up in the north , the beauty is unsurpassed. All things being said I would say you need to put this on your list of must do vacations, you wont be disappointed and the resort, staff and food was first class all the way. Cheers and great travels

My husband and I spent last weekend at Deerhurst a resort that has always been touted as top notch. Maybe at one time but not now. We stayed in the Bayshore Lodge which is a ten minute walk uphill to the main pavillion which houses the restaurants and activity centre. Our main reason for staying was for a snowmobile weekend. We parked our snowmobiles in the secure lot up at the main pavillion then had to walk in polar vortex weather back and forth to our room. No shuttle service available. To use the pool or restaurants we had to drive up to the site and back We were charged a resort fee of $24.98 per day, I guess this was for the lock up for the sleds and the pool, we didn't need the fitness room as we got plenty of exercise hiking to our room and back in the frigid weather!. Our room was shabby at best, had to get a new TV remote the first day and were then unable to book movies on our TV after that. The blow dryer kept overheating and had to be allowed to cool down frequently. Not fun taking 45 minutes to dry my hair. The food in the restaurants was adequate at best and obscenely expensive. $52.00 for 2 cheeseburgers & fries with pop. Two caesar salads with a plate of wings off the appetizer menu with 2 glasses of wine $94.00. We didn't expect the resort to be cheap but really! The one bright light of the weekend was the staff. The personnel at the resort are certainly helpful and friendly and apologetic for the shortcomings of the establishment. What a disappointing experience.

Thank you for posting a review and the compliments on the friendly service you experienced.

We are disappointed to read that your experience did not meet your expectations and apologize for your dissatisfaction. Your comments are very important to us and we will recount your experience to our teams to exemplify a missed opportunity to meet the expectations of a valued guest.

As you note, the resort does have a variety of different types of guest rooms and suites, ranging from regular hotel rooms in the Main Building, Lakeside accommodation and 1, 2, 3 Bedroom Condos which are situated around the resort. We should have uncovered during the reservation stage that you would not have a vehicle to maneuver around property and could have recommended a more suitable type of accommodation. Again, I apologize.

Also want you to know that we do our best to set our prices to remain competitive and appreciate your feedback as we continue to evaluate this.

In the end, we are disappointed to read that your experience did not meet your expectations and we would like the opportunity to speak to you directly to apologize to you in person and address some of your concerns. Please contact us at info@deerhurstresort.com.

We went there for a week end and the space is amazing. The view is magnificent and there are so many activities to do. We went snow shoeing and it was amazing. Our only problem with the place were around meal time. The service is not good and the food average yet expensive.

First evening I had the buffet (my wife had pasta plate) and had to clean table myself (had to pile up the appetizer plate, then main course plate and dessert). Ended up taking the plates myself as no one came to take them away the entire time we were there. And the food was really disappointing.

Breakfast was the worst experience. We were there on Sunday morning. At the end of our breakfast they started serving the Sunday brunch, which we didnt know we did not have access to. As the cheese platter from the breakfast seemed old, i came to take a piece of cheese from the brunch table. One woman came to me to ask me if i had paid for the brunch. Another one came over (so they were two talking to me to make sure i was entitled to this piece of cheese!!). I explained i did not know, that i had the breakfast voucher with the room. They talked to me as if i was trying to steel something that was not mine. I was so embarrassed. I went back to the table feeling so bad as they were so condescending. All this for a piece of cheese!!! They could have let me have it and explained for next time! OR be nicer about it. We were so insulted we left the restaurant. I have always paid for what i take and would have paid extra if needed, but being treated like this in a restaurant was unacceptable for us. Especially given that the breakfast voucher i had allowed me to have cheese as well... just not the fresh one... come on!!!!!

But besides the meal time, the resort is great and the view is beautiful. I was snowing when we went and it looked quite magical.

Room Tip: Rooms in main building are allowed dogs Worth to pay extra 10$ to view the forest vs the parking

Attended a wedding at Deerhurst recently (not mine :) Found it to be very enjoyable with the staff quite accommodating. Rooms were very comfortable (we stayed in the main building) and was surprised by the number of winter activities available! Could easily have spent more time there.

There were reports that when things got busier service could be less reliable (bride and groom had trouble getting early check in! - but attendees the following day had no difficulties, etc) and many people didn't like the long walk through the lobby from the rooms to the pool, but this aside it was an enjoyable stay.

My family (wife and two daughters, 10,8) stayed at Deerhurst last weekend in a Jr Suite. We have been to Deerhurst many times before but we stopped going about 3-4 years ago when the rooms were badly in need of renovation. We decided to try it again when we heard the rooms had been renovated. The room was nice, although there was no closet for winter coats and no tub in the bathroom (shower only)
Our biggest disappointment was when we discovered that the tennis courts had been converted to a conference room and the racquet ball courts were now an arcade and rock climbing wall. These were "free" family activities that we had greatly enjoyed in the past that are now replaced by additional cost activities. In addition, it was +7 on Friday so the ice rink was shut down for the weekend.(obviously out of your control) Lastly, the tubing hill had been shut down which the kids had been looking forward to the most. Therefore, basically all of the "included" activities were not available to us. That left us essentially with the costly options of dog sledding and renting snowmobiles, which for a family of four is very cost prohibitive.
On a more positive note, the paintjob at the pool was nice and the water was warm so the kids spent a few hours in there. We ended up leaving the resort to go to Arrowhead Provincial Park and we went tubing there.
And let's be honest about the resort fee. When you're paying $250/night for a winter resort, the pool towels, Wi-Fi, and ice skates should be included in that price. People hate to see additional fees on their bill in addition to the room rate. You're probably save yourself a lot of criticism by including the resort fee in the room rate. I didn't find that Deerhurst had the range of activiites that it had offered in the past and I don't think that we will be returning in the future.

While we appreciate the positive comments we are sorry to read that you were disappointed with aspects of your experience.

I am pleased to read that you were able to stay in one of the renovated Summit Lodge One Bedroom Suites although sorry you were not assigned a unit which features a bathtub. As the resort does offer a variety of different types of accommodations with varying features, we recommend guests advise us in advance of preferences so that we can provide recommendations and do our best to meet your requirements.

The decision to transform the indoor tennis courts was made in order to accommodate additional group business and special events such as our Annual Girlfriends Getaway, Michael Smith & Chef Susur Lee’s Culinary Weekends and our concert series including artists such as Trooper, Kim Mitchell and April Wine scheduled for this coming April.

As we know many of our guests enjoy indoor activity options, we expanded our indoor facilities and program offerings to include an Indoor Climbing Wall and Stargazers Ridge Amusement Area with great new interactive video games at a nominal user fee. I am pleased to read that you enjoyed the newly refreshed pool area which features an Underwater Sea Life Design Theme.

The Resort Amenity fee has been in place at our resort for many years and is common within the resort industry in some form or another. Prior to December of 2013, every guest at Deerhurst paid a 5% Resort Fee on their daily room accommodation rate to cover a number of things that we don't charge for at the resort. In December of last year, we decided to change the format of the charge from a percentage to a fixed amount per day while at the same time increasing the items covered by this fee to include parking, hi speed internet, in room coffee service, shuttle to the Decades Live show and Steamers Restaurant (when open), use of the indoor and outdoor pools, hot tub, towel service, fitness room, board games. During winter the following additional activities are available: cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice skating and hockey, all of which were previously paid for by guests in addition to their room. For the summer season we will be including, at no charge, use of our extensive kids splash zone and all non-motorized water craft such as canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards.

Again, we appreciate the time you have taken to share you feedback. Our Executive office has direct messaged you via TripAdvisor in hopes to personally connect with you. We remain hopeful we will have the chance to welcome you back to our resort in the future.
