Our nursing reunion has had another fabulous time at the Briar's. The setting is condusive to private nostalgic reminscences. The food is superb, and one gets the feeling we are appreciated by the staff and owners, as they go the extra distance to accomodate our wishes. We will be back next year and the yeatr after that.........Many thanks for the wonderful atmosphere.

Room Tip: We love First Tea for its cozy atmosphere, but each place I've stayed in has been very comfortab...

My husband and I stayed at The Briars for a 2 day period in May which included golf. It was a package deal. We stayed in a very rustic cottage which was quite enjoyable as it seemed very secluded. Unfortunately there were many more minuses than plusses.

The plusses: The food was oustanding! The service was very good and we actually tipped our servers which we were not expected to do, but we did because we appreciated it.

The minuses: Check in is at 4:00 and check out is at 12:00 noon. I understand staff needs time to clean a room, but when you are only staying one day, alternative times would be appreciated. It wasn't even a 24 hour period.

The remote control on our TV did not work. I went to the front desk to let them know and they immediately sent someone to try and fix it. Now you would think this should be one of the plusses, but the gentleman could not fix it and said sorry and left. Gee thanks! Believe me, it's not so pleasant when you're falling asleep and you have to get out of bed to turn it off! This isn't the 60's.

The air conditioner in the wall was so noisy, there would be no way we could sleep. I think it might have been as old as the resort itself!

The one day stay was quite expensive for basically 3 good meals, 4 hours of golf and a place to sleep. There are a lot of places that I will be choosing from next time and The Briars will not be considered again.

We stayed at The Briars for the Mother's Day weekend (Saturday-Sunday). Two moms and our two 16 year old sons, with plans for the moms to visit the spa and the boys to golf at The Briars golf club. Upon arriving I was struck by the fact that the hotel looks quite a bit more dated than the website picture. We were only staying for one night, so it would have been helpful for us to have our room a little sooner than the 4pm check-in, but this was not to be, and the staff were annoyed at our request. When we requested dinner reservations we were made to wait 1 hour while they "checked", and then were advised we could dine at 8pm. When we arrived for dinner at 8pm, the dining room was almost empty! The meal was overpriced ($32 for tough lamb), and due to a party going on adjacent to us there was loud rock music instead of pleasant dinner music. $200 for the 4 of us for dinner, and all of our food was "ok". The room was also "ok", looking out onto the parking lot. For $225/night, I expect a little luxury, but this was a basic motel room with tiny twin beds and a little, dated bathroom. It was clean, but I expect more than cleanliness for $225/night. The golf course was also a disappointment (The Briars Golf Club). This is a private club that "allows" Briars guests to play. I say "allows" because we were spoken to as though we were riff raff that had drifted in off the street and they were providing us with a privilege in playing. We went into Jackson's Point to look around, and wandered into a lovely shop. We asked where other shops might be and were answered with laughter...apparently there were no "other shops". Eventually we discovered there were others a little ways away in Sutton, but really this is a very quiet area with not much going on. So, in summary, our stay was pleasant, and we enjoyed ourselves, but for the money I did not find it good value.

Dear C,

We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughtful comments. We are so sorry to hear of your disappointment. Here are a couple of things that we recommend to make the most of your getaway: our full package, with all the meals and activities, is the best value and we highly recommend it - for a small amount more than the room, dinner and our wonderful Mother's Day Brunch are included. It is recommended that guests pre-arrange an early check-in so that we have an opportunity to prepare your room for you - especially on full check-in days. The Briars has a full slate of activities on weekends year-round, but many local events and experiences are seasonal and do not begin until summer. Our reservations staff can help assure you will not be disappointed. Thank you again.

Just returned from a reunion of university classmates at the Briars.
Great food, comfortable lodgings. Our cabin at First Tee had a entertainment spce for 40 people to mingle and talk inside, with a fire pit outside overlooking Lake Simcoe for an evening bonfire.
The historic walk the next day was enjoyable.

Room Tip: Rooms are available in cabins spread around the golf course or in newer motel-style rooms attached t...

We took a group to Briars to play bridge at the end of April 2012. Everything about this resort gets better and better. The food, the service in the dining room and the staff are all superb. Mrs. Sibbald, the owner, comes to speak to the group. This is a family-owned resort that has been around for 150 years. It is a most interesting saga.

They have a superb golf course, a world class spa, lovely swimming pool and very picturesque grounds. There are also cottages by the lake which are charming.

It takes only an hour to get there from Toronto. I would recommend this resort to anyone for a group e.g. reunion or a get away for a couple or on your own. There are lovely walks to be had. A fireplace outside on the lawn is diligently tended to and there are many nooks and crannies to read a book. The view from the tower is terrific. The rooms all have balconies. It is old world charm and so very special. You simply have to go.

Plan a wedding, a party, a get-together...whatever you plan, it will be well taken care of. Kae Ferraro, who does social groups, leaves no stone unturned and takes care of every detail. She is amazing. Bob, the resort manager is a star.

Room Tip: If you like to be on the water, choose a cottage. It is delightful. Waters Edge is our favourite. De...

Hello Barbara!

Thank you SO MUCH for your kinds words once again. Each Spring and Fall we look forward to hosting your group year after year. We are glad to hear that once again, things went so smoothly and you were happy with another Briars experience, although I think we owe a lot of that to you and your amazing programming for the weekend which we hear is both fun and informative for your attendees. All always have such good things to say about their stay, as well as their weekend with you. Anyone who plays Bridge should definitely experience one of Ms Seagram's Bridge at The Briars Weekends. We truly love having you. Thank you again for your continued kind words and programs you choose to host with us. See you in the Fall!

To Celebrate my wife's birthday, which happens to be New Year's Eve (!). Over the years (30+) we have made it as practice to get-away to someplace special....In Ontario. Many of the Inns and Resorts we've stayed at are on the Best Inns of Ontario listing. By far, our three days at the Briars this New Years was the best of all.

From the moment we arrived at check-in, we were welcomed as if we'd come back home! Everyone, and I mean everyone, had our enjoyment as "top job". On the evening of our arrival on Dec. 30th, we were invited to a 'Scottish Dancing" lesson (The Briars, as the name implies, has a close family tie to Scotland) where we learned three scottish dances which we would be doing New Year's Eve. Huge fun and no pressure to do it well; just do it!
Afterwards we went to the social dance where we were to enjoy cocktails (complimentary, by the way). To our surprise many members of the were there, visiting with everyone and sharing the history of the Resort. Perfect!
Dining at the Briars was one of our top ten, all time, experiences. Their Chef has a talent with the entire range of every course. Preparation and presentation were superb, as was the service. Best of all, everyone was having a great time! As well, the wine list has several choices of every variety one could want.
There is an indoor pool and spa in the building and the area, and the grounds, situated on the shore of Lake Simcoe and adjacent to Jackson's Point Conservation Area (donated by the Briars Owners) and the golf course attached to the resort offer something for everyone.
We have, already, made plans to go back, for the next Birthday!
I recommend the Briars to couples, families and friends. We've not found any better! It is a grand old place that offers all amenities one could ask for.

Room Tip: All rooms are worth the stay.

Hello Bud,

We are always happy when we hear of these types of experiences, as they are what we strive for. I got the pleasure this year of helping out during the holiday season and interacting with all the guests and I too was amazed at the feeling of "home" that seemed to resonate through all our guests. Trust me, the same is for the staff as well. We so look forward to having you join us again this coming holiday season for your wife's birthday! We hope you enjoy coming "home to The Briars" for years to come.
