A really neat village collection of houses and buildings, set in 1914. A great place to take young kids as there is the opportunity to walk around to burn energy. Very cute farm animals and a train to look at, too!

“Beautiful experience”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

My friend brought me here for a Christmas candle light walk. It was wonderful! We were given a tour by lantern light and went to the various structures. The hay ride was great! There were even treats at some of the places. My favorite stop was at the end. We were treated, by candle light, to Christmas carols. Would do this again in a heart beat! A suggestion for anyone else, though, dress warm!

“My neighborhood historic village”
Reviewed November 11, 2013

I have lived around the corner from this remarkable recreated century old village for quite a long time, even bringing my Grade 5-6 classes to be educated in that time period. It is one of the oldest examples in the Kitchener area of life in a bygone century with costumed interpreters and genuine heritage gardens, barn, church and buildings of daily life pertaining to people who used to live there; homes of long passed families. There is a marvellous train engine from the days of steam, and a brand new Museum on its grounds with many examples of early industry and life in the 1900s as well as modern exhibits which rotate regularly. There is a free admission day on July 1st and there are Christmas lantern tours with additional fees from the regular admission. There are events at different times of the year and it is all at a very reasonable cost.

“Great inexpensive Kids outing”
Reviewed September 25, 2013 via mobile

This is a great little gem for a great price. There are a lot of things for children to see and very educational too. It is worth the trip to see life back in time in a nice environment. There are a lot of animals here too.

“A trip to Ontario in 1914”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

Doon Heritage Crossroads depicts life as it might have been experienced in a village in south-western Ontario on the eve of the First World War. (Some of the Anne of Green Gables films were also shot here.) We visited on a very hot day during a heatwave, but many of the houses and shops were relatively cool inside, there were shade trees in many locations, and heritage style ice water coolers were thoughtfully provided for visitors in various places. Despite wearing historic costume which must have been very warm, the staff were just as pleasant as if it were a cool autumn day. They were all friendly and knowledgeable and made the visit to each house, shop or workshop a pleasure. There were also many activities to take part in and though we did not, we did see a number of young families who did. (e.g. scarecrow making; quilting, etc.) We ended our visit in the cool of the large museum which acts as both entrance and exit to the village, and which puts Doon in the greater context of the history of the Waterloo region. Overall, this was a pretty little historical village and well worth the visit.
