My family went for a birthday dinner last night. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere was great as well. The menu had a lot to choose from and catered to many diets. Thanks for a great dining experience Luigi. :)

I drop into Borealis at both of its locations (Guelph and Kitchener/Cambridge). They accommodate Paleo diners, and have good specials. Noise levels are good, as is the decor. The washrooms are doorless, a great innovation from a health point of view.

This place has a lovely atmosphere as the decor is modern but manages to hold on to the old finishes of the 19th century schoolhouse in which it is housed. Have always had friendly and helpful service. The menu is somewhat limited, but it changes regularly and definitely offers enough variety to please most tastes. The food is very good, but what I like best is that everything they serve is LOCAL. Everything comes to them from inside a 100 km radius. It's great to support local producers AND get a nice meal.

I enjoyed a nice dinner of Vegetable and Quinoa Curry at the Borealis Grille and Bar. The restaurant has a nice feel to it and offers food selections for both meat and non-meat eaters. The food is fresh which makes the dining experience worthwhile. The food and beverages come from the local community for almost of the menu selections. Although I barely tasted the curry flavoring, the dish was tasty and the service was very good. It surpasses any of the nearby food chain restaurants. I will certainly return to this place on my next trip to Kitchener.

Borealis restaurant is housed in a mid-19th century schoolhouse that has been "restored" to some sort of chipped, distressed plaster and exposed brick look. Prices and decor say it should be trendy "fine dining". Tippy bare tables and T-shirted wait staff say "road house" to me.
The dichotomy exists in the food quality as well. The menu is limited and emphasizes locally sourced ingredients. The concept is admirable but our meals were average at best.
I had French onion soup and prime rib. The soup hadn't been heated thoroughly and didn't have a rich onion broth. The prime rib was nicely medium rare but my portion was fibrous and a little too lean. Dessert was called a chocolate torte but it really is a chocolate lava-type cake in a Mason jar.
If a friend absolutely insisted,we would return for a second go round but Borealis didn't make our list of best bets for an evening out.
