“Amazing!”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

This restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, service and food. I highly recommend this restaurant because it gives a special twist to the beautiful town of Midland.

Jennifer was our waitress she was splendid to deal with and always prompt with our service. Food was ordered to perfection!

The building is a historical site which makes the experience even better.

Try the Pickeral! My favorite dish :)

“The worst food experience in a long time”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

We are boaters and travel to the area every weekend where on occasion we find ourselves at the dock and venture out to sample the local fare. On this occasion we tried the Library restaurant in Midland.

We made a reservation asking for a window seat which they said was no problem. Upon arrival we were seated promptly however not at a window seat. Our server was Robyn who brought our drinks order promptly. We both ordered Caesar salad which arrived warm and the romaine lettuce was shredded into pieces about the size for an elephant. Robyn arrived to ask how the salad was and I informed it that it was warm. The response from the server was "Ill make sure your main course is boiling hot". She did offer to replace it but we decided to forge on. My wife ordered the beef tenderloin and I ordered the salmon. The beef tenderloin was average about what you could pick at the local grocery store, certainly not restaurant quality and certainly not up to the $32.00 price. The salmon was another story, when ordering I had asked Robyn what was the best way to order the salmon as the server will and should know how the fish will turn out based on the order. Clearly I did not want it over cooked or undercooked either. Robyn said medium is the best way to have the fish done based on my request. Half way through the salmon it was rare and unedible. The desserts were acceptable.

The server did not seem sincere when asking how the food was and in fact did not seem to care.

The overall experience was awful, I would give this restaurant a pass. There are other restaurants with better quality in the area or in Penetanguishene.

“Such a pleasant surprise”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

We arrived in Midland at our B&B late on a Sunday afternoon and asked our host to recommend a restaurant within walking distance;we had not done any research beforehand about what was available. He recommended the closest but we decided to go for a walk and see what we could find. Walking down the main street, we saw a sandwich board directing us to The Library, on a side street so we decided to check it out...so glad we did!! There was an outside patio that was tempting to me since it was a perfect summer evening...but instead we went inside to a beautiful, architecturally interesting dining room. We were greeted warmly ,seated promptly and a lovely waitress, Robyn, took our drink order, apologizing for the slight delay as they were busy. We ordered our meal when our drinks arrived and the owner, a cordial gentleman brought out or bread as the room started to fill up.
We both enjoyed a delicious meal...plank salmon with red rice and the daily special, pork tenderloin with apple compot....served promptly. No room for dessert but a great experience in a unique atmosphere.
We made sure that our B&B host was aware of our positive experience so he could recommend it next time someone asked for his advice!

“Great spot, beautiful interior, excellent food and great value.”

Menu has something for any diet, and it's surprisingly professional for cottage country. Patio is charming, inside is really neat too.
Enjoy!

“Amazing Food & Excellent Service”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

I recently visited The Library Restaurant for a friends birthday dinner. What a lovely building! As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the staff and seated at a table. The menu is not too large which is nice but still lots of variety. Our server was very knowledgeable on the food, wine and the history of the building. Our appetizers were delicious (LOVE THE COCONUT SHRIMP) and our entrees were fantastic as well. I had the pork and it was perfectly done. Desserts were amazing - we each got a different one just because they sounded so delicious and then we shared. So delicious! What a fantastic evening out - great food with great friends. Can't wait to go back....maybe today for lunch :)
