I go to Jack Astors a few times a month. It is obvious immediately that the staff are well trained, friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. I usually sit in the bar because it just has a nice feel to it. Lively, well decorated, more downtown Toronto than downtown Newmarket. In spite of all these upsides the food is the usual fare that you get at all of these mid market chain restaurants. In my opinion these restaurants all tend to blend into one another. The food is not bad, and its not great. It's just middle of the road. The burgers are OK but fries are the cheap frozen kind. Plenty of dishes using high fat to get a flavour boost. Starters are the best thing on the menu. I think this restaurant really shines as a place to go for families with kids. Kids are treated well by the staff and seem to have fun there. They also won't be too critical of the food. I still go once in a while but mostly I just have a pint and an appetizer and leave. They have a good selection of draft beer and even get some new choices once in a while. In regards to food you can do a better at some of the lesser known restaurants in the area.
