“A fun side trip from Waterloo to St. Jacobs”

Waterloo Central Railway
Ranked #11 of 34 things to do in Waterloo

We've used the train several times to take visiting young neices and nephews to St. Jacobs. You board at the station in Waterloo and enjoy a leisure ride out of the city through university land, countryside and can make a stop at the famous Waterloo Farmer's Market or ride right into downtown St. Jacobs which is filled to the brim with interesting shops, restaurants and historic attractions. Be prepared to spend a little money unless you have much more will power than I.

We had a great time on this ride. My 5 year old loves trains and we got to ride on a steam engine which just about sent him over the moon. The staff were friendly and helpful. We went on a Saturday for the 10:00am train and it was busy. Make sure to arrive early to get your choice of seating.

This is a fun ride for couples, families or seniors. The train goes slowly and the schedule is limited but if you want something to do that doesn't cost a lot, this is probably the best you'll find in Waterloo!

We take the train out to the farmer's market at least once a year. Usually we ride right out to St.Jacob's and then stay on the train for the return trip, getting off at the farmer's market. We spend either an hour or three hours at the market, then catch the train back to Waterloo. It's not a fast paced adventure, but it's interesting and a great way to support local interests.

The ride and tour is very reasonable. It is quite scenic and you learn abit of history of Waterloo Region and St. Jacobs. Also you can visit the St. Jacobs market while here in Waterloo and there is always lots to do at the market. Again, a region of very friendly and courteous people.
