The Chateau Canmore has recently switched its restaurant to a Woody's Bar-B-Q, a chain out of Jacksonville, Florida. We stopped in for lunch not long after it opened. I have spent a bunch of time in the Southern US, so know my BBQ quite well. We tried the brisket and the Carolina pulled pork sandwiches, with slaw and green beans. The brisket was very good; nice smoke ring and good flavour. It was enhanced by their in-house BBQ sauces. Very tasty, and traditional Texas style, though the portion of brisket on the lunch sandwich was a little light. The pulled pork was OK but a bit disappointing; no "burnt ends", no noticeable smoke ring or smoke flavour, and not as flavourful as most any other BBQ pulled pork I've had. The in-house Carolina vinegar and mustard sauces helped, but the sandwich was still pretty bland. The slaw is OK but nothing to write home about; also a bit bland. The green beans were really tasty and not overdone. Overall, very good prices (most lunch items under $10, dinner items around $20). Not the real BBQ shack seedy atmosphere (perhaps not a bad thing), so ideal for its hotel location. Worth a visit for the brisket.
