“Last Resort, Not your Normal Hotel Experience”
Reviewed August 2, 2011

My wife a friend and I stayed here for 3 nights at the end of July , beginning of August 2011.
I will list in point form things I think you will need to know if you are thinking of staying at this property.
- The building is clean enough and so was the room we were in.
- The lobby isn't open or manned all hours so if you need help after hours you need to call. Lucky for us we didn't need too.
- Since the Lobby isn't manned after hours you need to carry an additional key (over and above your room key card) to get into the building. Or to get into the elevator at any time from the underground parking.
- The extra key doesn't work all that well but it does work. ( You have to forcefully giggle it until it finally works.) This happens in the elevator doors from the parkade. When asked the staff informed us to giggle the key and it will work. ( Good fix )
- Underground parking was free but the door was short at 6'1" so no SUV with roof carrier.
- Wireless Internet was an extra charge in your room but you could use the computer down in the lobby.
- There are no hot tubs or pools on the property but you can use the ones next door for you guessed it a fee for the day.
- The cleaning staff was nice and helpful.
- The lobby staff was nice as well but the night guy didn't seem like he knew what he was talking about because when we checked in he told us we had a suite but it ended up being a room with the queen size beds.
- The beds were ok. I slept well but the pillows are thin and lumpy. ( Bring your own )
- The whole building is out of date and everything was older, IE. TV. paint, etc. This doesn't bother me as long as things work and they did but others may be turned off.

All in all for the price this room was not worth it. The pictures shown on Trip for this property don't represent the room we stayed in so don't be fooled.
In my opinion the room was worth $70 a night not double that which is the price we paid through Travelocity. I do understand this is Canmore and the hotels can ask more but then don't try and nickel and dime on the extras.
There are better choices in Canmore than this property at comparable pricing so unless this is the last room in town ( Last Resort ) then try a different place to stay.

Room Tip: Just try a different hotel and don't bother with this property.

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend getaway for our anniversary.

Location is great, within walking distance to shops and restaurants, and of course amazing views and outdoor atmosphere!

The rooms were shabby, outdated and incredibly disappointing based on the price. Parking was horrible. We will never stay here again.

Easily the worst hotel I've stayed at in Canada; possibly the worst hotel I've stayed at in the western world, and without a doubt the worst value hotel on the planet. At $300 a night, you get sweat-stained, 15-year-old lumpy pillows, kids sized beds to try to sleep on, a VCR, of all things for all those tapes you may have brought with you from 1982, a tiny 1980s TV, and the shock of arriving to find if you want to use the towels, it will cost you an extra $25! A truly dreadful place to stay.

Spent a week in Sunset Resorts as part of a timeshare exchange. We were in a 2 bedroom/2 bath unit on the 3rd floor. The 3rd floor rooms all have balconies and BBQ grills, whereas the 2nd floor rooms don't have a balcony but have a jacuzzi tub instead. Get a 3rd floor room if possible. The room has been updated, but is not very large. The biggest problem is that there is no air conditioning in half of the units, so it was a little warm. Also, the furniture in the den is rather large, so the room appears fairly cramped. There is a nice gas fireplace and 2 TV's, although they are the old fashioned box TV's. There is underground parking lot with elevator access to the room.

There is a very small game room (if you can call it that) consisting of a pool table surrounded by several ofther games in a room that is about 10' x 10'. There is no hot tub or pool, but you could buy a pass for $50 to access the sister hotel next door. Likewise internet if $50 for the week.

The guys at the front desk were really good. I had called them on the phone several times and they were very helpful. Likewise at checkin they helped me out.

The single best part of the hotel is the location. Canmore is in a great location to allow touring. We could be in Banff in 20 minutes. Banff if more developed and "quaint" throughout, but Canmore has several nice streets as well.

Check in was average and not very friendly, he seemed totally disinterested. We were asked to check an inventory, something we have not been asked to do before. It took 24 hrs to get an hairdryer missing from the list.
Pillows were small and very uncomfortable
The building is not appealing, reception is nondescript and not well sign posted, the whole place looks like a car park. It seems to be set up more for private condos definitely not a resort
There were notices in the wardrobes between sheets and towels regarding extra charges if used, don't leave them in the rooms in the first place
We had to pay extra for internet access, our daughter had to use her computer for work so we had to pay a second fee
Lack of a mat at the door to the Condo meant we constantly had grit and mud throughout, they did vacuum once mid week but the vac had poor to no suction
The hot tub was always covered, the room locked and not readily accessible
The gym machines had broken weights and some were missing safety pieces,
This was a time share swap and was very disappointing,we will not be returning.
Canmore itself is a fantastic place in a perfect position for winter and summer sports, great restaurants, cafes and shops. We do visit a few times per year

We travel the world and found the spaciousness, friendliness and location of this resort to be wonderful. There were 18 in our group and we found so much to do in Canmore and surrounding area.
The staff were so helpful in answering many questions by our group, and pointing us in the right direction.
We WILL BE BACK, and look forward to making this an annual event.

My partner and I were in Alberta for her frinds wedding at the Banff Springs Hotel. We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit with a kitchen.
Definately not a grand hotel with a fancy lobby or ammenities, but it was a place for us to crash after a day of skiing or cave exploring.
we were impressed by the room. Had a open concept kitchen/dining/living room and gas fireplace and 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and in suite laundry.
the master bedroom had a full ensuite bath and a great view of the mountains. the 2nd bedroom had no windows, but was close to the second bathroom.
underground parking was nice as we had a lot of snow.
overall we enjoyed ourselfs and being walking distance to a bunch of bars and restaurants was nice too.
things to do: cave exploring at Rat cave, skiing at sunshine and lake louise. hiking up sulpher mountain in banff.
love the canadian rockies!
