“Mystic Springs perfect for our family”
Reviewed August 20, 2005

Just returned from a trip to the Rockies, which included 5 nights at Mystic Springs in Canmore. We chose this place as a result of reviews on TripAdvisor and were not disappointed - what an excellent choice for our family of 5, including 3 teenagers! The amenities and cleanliness were all first rate - layout of the chalet's interior perfect for a family, offering space and privacy. Two bathrooms a real bonus with grown up children.
Even though the hotel is near the highway the noise never came through to bother us, and our chalet was one of the nearest to the road. Shared barbecue faciltities (2 large gas barbecues) were very good and pool excellent.
Canmore itself is obviously developing and expanding, with many new properties and is a really nice little town. 2 excellent supermarkets with easy access and parking. It provided us with a good base for our days in the Banff National Park - we bought an annual pass to cover Bannf and Jasper Parks (cheaper than daily passes if you are staying for any length of time). If any of our friends were considerning a trip to the Rockies we would certainly recommend Mystic Springs as one of the bases.

Great hotel! I have no reservations to recommend it for a family trip. It is new, clean, stuff is friendly, and all cooking amenities are there. Beds are very comfortable (especially after a long flight to Calgary!). To avoid paying daily park entrance fee, we bought a family year pass. Soaking into the hot pool after a day long hiking was fantastic. Canmore has excellent restaurants. We went to Copper Door and were not disappointed. Excellent creative cuisine for much less price then you would pay for the same meal in Banff.

We stayed a week at Mystic Springs after reading other reviews here. My comments:

Canmore is a good place to stay - lots of activities, restaurants, great scenery, and less expensive than Banff. The town of Banff is about 20 minutes, Lake Louise about an hour. Scenery in Canmore is almost as good as in the park. There is a daily fee to drive into the park ($16). There are plenty of day hikes around Canmore, and we rafted in Kananaskis Country.

Mystic Springs is a good choice for families, especially if a swimming pool is important and you want to eat in. The "hot pool" must be the swimming pool, and I have no idea where the springs are. The units surround the pool, so there's no mountain view from there, or from most of the rooms. The hotel location is not great - between the Bow Valley Parkway (busy road) and Trans Canada 1. It's a bit far to walk to restaurants (other than the steak place next door at the Radisson) and grocery stores. The nicest hotel location I saw was the Residence Inn (see its reviews).

As for the hotel - it's new and clean, and the kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, toaster, coffee maker - plus all the full-sized appliances. The air conditioning is LOUD when it's on, so I'd suggest opening windows during the day (although even then not a lot of air circulation), and maybe running the A/C before trying to sleep. We got clean towels every day, despite hanging them up so we could re-use them, and a linen change after 3 days. The beds are comfortable, the pillows less so. The hide-a-bed sofa is typical - only young kids will be comfortable. My 2 kids did enjoy 5 days of free X-Box and a few DVD's.

Two washing machines and 4 dryers, $1.50 per load per machine, $1 for a single load box of Tide or 2 sheets of Bounce. One nice large gas grill near the pool, which was popular - you may have to wait to use it.

We stayed 5 days from 6/13 to 6/18 and really like the professionalism and friendliness of the staff. The place is clean and with one master bedroom and a separate room with 2 queen sized beds, it's enough space for a typical family. We didn't have a chance to use the pool because we were too busy hiking and out in the wilderness. I'd recommend this place to any family. It's less expensive comparing renting hotel rooms requiring same number of beds. It's a home away from home for a short time.

This place is the perfect spot to stay when visiting the Banff area, epically for families.
The chalet is very clean and equipped, and the pool was enjoyable.
The kitchen has all the utensils you would need. The market is only 5 minutes away. (Bring your own condiments if you will be cooking, saves some $) Can't wait to visit again.

I've traveled quite a bit and I must say that this is the nicest place I've lodged in. Besides the spaciousness, what struck me was the contemporary, elegant styling. The plush bedding was magnificent, both to look at and to sleep in. Other touches that did not go unnoticed were the bath robes, Aveda products, high speed internet connection, and televisions in all three rooms. Although I did not cook, the full kitchen was nice. With all the beautiful things to do and see in Canmore/Banff, I must admit, I wanted to get back and enjoy my room!
We stayed for one night (June 5, 2005) and paid $164 CAD. Worth every penny!
