My wife and I needed a weekend away while we listed our house, so we headed off to the Rockies. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express near Canmore. We had a room with a kind bed and "spa" which translates into a very nice, oversized bathroom with marble shower and jetted tub. The room was on the second floor, but had a very nice view, though there was a bit of noise from the #1 highway if we left the window open. The only issue we had was a bit of an odor in the room. Not sure what caused it, but it smelled a bit like someone had received a perm.

There was plenty of parking and the price was very reasonable. We had breakfast in the restaurant on the main floor, but can't say it was worth the price. We would definitely stay there again, though our meals would definitely be had across the highway in Canmore or in nearby Banff.

Room Tip: Go for the king room with the spa

Upon driving up to the motel we did not see anything wrong with our choice for a one night stay. Our first problem happened at check in when the credit card "did not go through". Apparently the desk clerk did not know that Discover cards were not accepted there and that was the reason the card did not go through - not a lack of credit on the card or a problem with the account.

The next problem were the rooms themselves. They looked good and were suitably big but one room smelled of mold and the other room had mold in the bathroom. The little boxes in the bathroom that had sewing kit, shower cap etc. were all empty. They looked like they were just there for show.

We chose to eat dinner in the restaurant at the hotel. There was only one other group there when we got there but in spite of that it took nearly an hour to get our food. The food was average but acceptable but the restaurant was terribly understaffed. There was only one person to seat people, take orders and serve as bartender. He tried hard but his limited ability to speak English made it difficult. He also knew nothing about mixing cocktails. We joked that there was probably only one person doing all of the cooking.

All in all we were very disappointed with our stay and would not recommend anyone stay at this hotel.

Great hotel. Was not a huge fan of the layout of their loft (king) bedroom. Bathroom upstairs was crammy. Its hard of get around it when there's 2 of you trying to use it. You can't really see much of the mountain where we were so upgrading and paying 200+ for me was not worth it . Receptionist was nice and friendly and overall cleanliness of the hotel was good.

Great view, great location. Went for a mountain biking trip and the hotel has a washing station for bikes. Trails are close by and well-maintained. Outdoor hot tub was awesome after a day outside. Highly recommended!

We recently had a couples' retreat at this hotel, and I'm glad we chose this hotel. Affordable but maintains high quality standards compared to other hotels of the same rating that I've been to. The rooms have been renovated and the atmosphere was just perfect - quiet, clean and well maintained. Beautiful views of the mountains and there's also a superb hiking trail close by. Analyn the sales coordinator was just amazing. She went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was extremely pleasant. Ask for her when making group reservations!! Other staff members were helpful and courteous as well.

As for the restaurant, we had such a "not so great experience"....mostly because of our special dietary needs. Good thing there are other great restaurants close by.

Overall, the hotel is GREAT!! Would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for some affordable peace and quiet..or even group functions.

Room Tip: All rooms are great but I'd recommend a jacuzzi suite for couples looking for a romantic get away!
