We stayed for a week after 9 weeks around the world travel. Canmore was a good decision over Banff but this would be the noisiest room we stayed in the whole time. Large exhaust fans in the central court yards between bow and aurora from carpark started and stopped 24/7 and prohibited balcony use. We moved from 2nd to 3rd floor after complaining which improved but still too noisy in living area for a toddler to sleep. No blackout blinds. Fabulous kitchen and bathroom. If you want a view need a premium suite and top level apartments are mostly for 2-3 bedrooms. Comfortable but overall was a mediocre stay and not what we looked forward to.

I completely agree with the opinion of canadianquebecer about the hotel. We were in the two bedrooms apartment with living room. Beds in the bedrooms were very comfortable but the sofabed in the living room is not suitable for sleeping . When we turned to the management, they offered to move us to hotels in standard much lower and when we did not agree,just ignored us and gave us the feeling that they do not care, even though they knew our daughter slept on the floor.
Also, all eight days, the housekeeping did not washed or vacuumed the floor. even though when we arrived, we were told that they will clean the rooms every four days.
Overall, we liked the location and design of the apartment, which was clean and pleasant.The kitchen was nicely equipped with all you need.. But also we realized that no one take care of any problems when came up.

We rented a 1-bedroom suite for a week at Solara in mid-August 2013 for our family vacation. We wee quite pleased by the location of the resort, about a 10-15 mins walk to downtown Canmore.

If you look through the reviews, there are 3 themes that keep on being repeated and we also reiterate them:

1) The Resort is beautiful, comfortable and well appointed : yes, it was and we enjoyed that part, but that is the extent of it.

2) Air Conditionning doesn't work well : it took hours for our suite to cool down by a few degrees. The AC unit is very loud but innefficient.

3) Housekeeping is mediocre : for us, it was terrible. We arrived to a dirty suite and it should have been our clue to ask to be moved to another block (there are 3 different buildings at that resort). The Solara's website / reservation mentions housekeeping, but if you stay for a few nights, they will only come to pick up garbage, restock coffee/tea and make the bed; at least this is what we were told at check in but this never even happened. We NEVER got housekeeping coming to do their daily tasks in our suite. We spoke to the duty manager 3 times and once to the guest services manager about this and, despite promises, housekeeping never got sorted out. I can stay in a hotel 1/2 the cost of this resort and get full housekeeping daily! I'm not sure what is worse for us, whether it was the lack of housekeeping or the failure of management to sort the issue out despite several polite discussions with them.

Common areas are not weel cleaned either. Elevators, hallways and the 'water play' area had the same floor garbage, dirt, grime, etc during our entire stay.

What we liked :
1 - Comfortable suites (beds were very comfortable) and beautiful suites. Website pictures are fair representations of what you get.

2 - well equipped suites, although some basics were missing (sink plug, bathtub drain plug, pillow cases over the spare pillows...). That should be picked up by any attentive housekeeping staff.

3 - the resort is conveniently located.

What we didn't like :
1 - Lousy housekeeping. The bar is purposefully set low in comparison with other places and yet, they still failed to meet their lower standards.

2 - Management unable to resolve basic problems. (also note that there was no manager available at checkout and that a polite and courteous e-mail to the GM has not been replied to!)

3 - If you are on the 1st floor, you will likely not have a good view and if you open the curtains, expect to see people walking about 2 feet away staring at you having breakfast.

4 - Water play area : very underwhelming. You have a 14x8' hottub and a similar size wading pool (mid-calf deep) as well as sprinkler park with 6 jets coming up from the ground. Our toddler was also very underwhelmed with this. Despite this, we went 3 times and every time, we had to go ask for towels since they hadn't been restocked.

5 - Poor upkeep : The place appear to be quite new considering the decor and amenities, but it's already quite dinged, scuffed, scratched, etc.

6 - Noise : We found the suites to be rather quiet (other than the loud AC unit) and we didn't hear neighbours. But if you have a staircase access door (emergency door) beside your unit, expect the bedroom walls to shake everytime the door closes! We often were woken up at 6 am with people opening the door to go walk their dogs. It's like there is an explosion on the other side of the wall!!!

7 - Hospitality manners - lack thereof : Check in was very crude, especially after waiting over 5 minutes. It's really just, sign here, sign there, and you are given a full sheets of DOs and DON'Ts about the resort. Checkout was really rude. The lone attendant was on the phone nearly screaming at a client about room rates, having a very condescendant attitude. After explaining the issues experienced (if you asked how was my stay, I may tell the truth...) and asking for a manager, I was answered there was none available and that housekeeping is no big deal anyway. Rude tone throughout depite us remaining polite and tactful. I picked up my receipt and left.

Overall, this is a pleasant venue, but if management continues with their poor practices, I have no interest in ever returning there; after all, there are lots of other options...

Room Tip: Don't stay on first floors, avoid suites adjacent to a staircase / outside doors. Lower your expectations with regards to AC and bring cleaning material with you to the resort. Or do yourself a favor and consider the other resorts in Canmore...

This is a 5 star luxury condo. We rented a 3 bedroom for our family. The master bedroom was large with a king size bed, tv, fake fireplace with large walk in closet. The second bedroom has a queen bed room. The 3rd room has 2 twin beds. There was two bathrooms with the larger one in the master bed suite. Inside the condo is all high end. Kitchen well provisioned. Large refrigerator, large range, dishwasher and even a wine fridge. Granite counter tops. We did have some issues with missing items (e.g. frying pan, enough glasses, etc.) but within a day all was provided. I did find they did not provide enough dish soap, dishwasher soap or laundry soap for the whole week but it was simple enough to buy supplies. The beds and bedding were very comfortable. The towels in the bathroom were fluffy and soft. There was a TV and fake fireplace in the living room.
The parking was indoor. The spa was great. Fitness center was modern. The hot tub was large and the water hot. There is also a movie theater suitable for over 50 people. A five minute drive to Canmore and an easy walk. Recommended but very pricey.

Generally pleased with the 2br penthouse suite. Worked well for two adults and two kids. One king and one room with two twins. Caution: not all kings break down into twins, so make sure you're getting what you need. Room was nicely equipped. Good views, however, are hard to come by. Some rooms face a courtyard with an unusually loud ventilation fan. Very poor planning. Staff needs some training in hospitality. I guess that's one of the differences between a condo and a hotel. The tradeoffs worked for us. Large, comfortable well equipped rooms and kitchen. Felt like a home, not a hotel. If Canmore is your base or destination, and this in in your budget, then give serious consideration. Note: you can book directly with Solara or with agents. We used www.leavetown.com. same rates as direct booking, but when we had an issue with the loud room facing the courtyard, I felt like they were my advocates in getting things resolved.
