Stayed in a king room for a couple nights. Room was on the 2nd floor facing the rear of the hotel. The view from the room wasn't great as you looked into someone elses house but looking past that you could see the mountains of course. The deck connected all the rooms along that side of the hotel but didn't seem to be used all that frequently, probably due to view.

The hotel was a good value and the breakfast was okay. No hot items (unless toasted) but everything was well stocked throughout breakfast.

The hotel has easy access to downtown and loads of information at the front desk for things to do and see around the area.

All in all it was clean and comfortable and exactly what we needed for a couple days exploring the mountains.

We were in one of the few rooms on the 2nd floor (center of hotel) at the backside, not front side. So all comments are geared to that. The room was spacious - nicely so. The jacuzzi tub worked great, water was hot, perfect if you are hiking or having fun in the national parks! We didn't try the fireplace. Bed was VERY comfortable. For a budget hotel, the TV was a decent flat screen above the fireplace. We sometimes had the sliding door open and did not have the problems with gaps and screens that others mentioned. The balcony is continuous along the other back rooms - but we didn't have smokers out and in fact we didn't have anyone use their balconies.
As others have noted, the breakfast was crowded, the coffee awful, and they ran out of boiled eggs 2 of 3 mornings so there really wasn't a protein choice, it was all carbs. But we quickly found a couple different coffee/bagel shops along the road in front, not too far away.
The staff was very, very friendly and helpful. There was plenty of local tourist literature available.
The location is unbeatable for convenience, set back a little from a main drag, not directly downtown, but we walked easily to downtown and to the trails around town. We did not try Chez Francois.
The free day-pass for our vehicle for Banff NP was a $19 bonus! Fortunately, we checked in and got this before we bought a pass elsewhere. And this can save you a lot of time going into the park as you don't have to buy a pass at the entrance. (We were there Heritage Day weekend plus the folk music festival in Canmore. Things were very, very busy.)

Room Tip: 20x where x is odd are the rooms on 2nd floor, away from road in front.

We had a second floor room opposite side to the four lane services road, and perhaps quieter. The problem was this place has no elevator, so dragging heavy luggage up a poorly lit, curved staircase was a hassle. The room was small, old in design, but clean and generally in good order. Exceptions: the slider screen door to the balcony was designed with a gap to let in mosquitos, and also had a hole kicked in the bottom of it. The glass slider tended to jam badly. Guests in neighboring rooms used their balcony adjacent to us as a smoking and yakking lounge. The smoke and noise tended to come into our room, so we were always trying to open and close the sliders. We had a gas fireplace but did not have an opportunity to try it. It was very difficult to get to a power outlet, as in most old rooms. Internet connection was good.

Continental breakfast was included, but the little room was seriously overcrowded. At least we got to meet other travelers. They ran out of eggs the first morning. There was good bread for toast. "Coffee" from the dispensing machine was a sort of brown water.

A National Parks day pass (value $20 for two) was included in the hotel price, but be aware that if you travel to Canmore over the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) and thus through the park, you will be forced to pay for a pass at the park entry, regardless of being given one at the hotel on arrival. The hotel-issued pass is only useful if you approach from Hwy 1 (from Calgary), or if you are in the park for two or more days.

This might all sound rather grumpy, but Canmore/Banff area is as high-priced as it gets in Canada, and this hotel did rather well for the money spent - good bed, clean, lots of hot water.

Room Tip: Unless you have a strong arm for luggage - travel light, or take a first floor room! Back side of t...

I only stayed there one night but I must say it was a positive experience. No complaints. They offer a free continental breakfast but we opted for the "upgrade" to bacon-n-eggs breakfast for $6.30 per person, served in a nice restaurant in the building. It was delicious!

This place was a nice surprise since we had stayed in an Econolodge in another city the night before that was a dump. My expectations were very low. However, this place was very nice. We stayed in a first floor room that had a small patio. Stayed here 3 nights in July. Room was clean and staff was pleasant. Breakfast was good. Check in and out was smooth. Lots of places to eat nearby. The city center was close. Centrally located for visits to Banff and Calgary. The only downside to our visit was that the gas fireplace in our room didn't work. We were offered another room but we didn't feel like moving all of our things. When I checked out I had hoped they would give me some kind of credit but they said they couldn't. Other than that the stay was great. Just a general comment on a lot of hotels.....Get a TV that doesn't require a degree in Engineering to use.

Room Tip: Get a room in the back of the building to avoid road noise

The Econo Lodge makes a convenient overnight stop between Calgary Airport and the bus pickup to Lake O'Hara Lodge in BC. My family spends a week or more Hiking in tha area.

You can usually get a very good dinner right in the building At Chez Francois. They also serve breakfast.
We always have the early breakfast right by the office, a plentiful serve yourself breakfast.

The rooms are small &comfortable as are the beds. MM

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side are quieter.

After a long drive from Horse Shoe Bay BC, it was very nice to stay in a hotel with pleasant and courteous staff, and a very clean and inviting room to relax in. Along with the usual hotel amnesties there was also a small fridge, toaster, two burner stove top, and a few pots and plates. There was also a gas fire place. The hotel is right off of the main road and had an area to park our vehicle and camper. The continental breakfast was great as well. A great place to rest.

Room Tip: There are ground floors so if you need one I would suggest asking for one when booking a room.
