My wife, who is from Quebec and I just visited La Belle Patate in Canmore for a late lunch. It is a little out of the way in Canmore`s industrial park, but it is well worth taking the trouble to find. See http://is.gd/XxY1St
This is not shi-shi health food. It`s the kind of food that sticks to your ribs and satisfies that special itch we had for the kind of food we used to share when we were first dating back in Montreal.
We ordered two all-dressed Steemies (steemed hot dogs), patate frites (hand-cut fries) which tasted like the ones you get from a chip truck along two classic milkshakes made with big scoops of real ice cream. It tasted great and the cost was $21.00 with taxes.
La Belle Patate tries hard, and succeeds, in giving patrons a taste of Montreal away from La Belle Province, right down to the Habs hockey memorabilia and Joe Louis boxes on the counter.
Now if they could just bring back the Expos my life would be perfect!
La Belle Patate?
It`s the next best thing to being in Montreal !
