“Excellent Service, food sometimes in the tasteless zone”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

First off we went out for a special night together. We asked the girl at the front of our hotel to recommend a place. We ended up at the Iron Goat. Easy drive to get to, parking is a bit of a challenge to get to. Our server seated us right beside the fire place, wonderful! Ryan (from Manitoba) was right away to take our drink orders. When we asked for suggestions he knew his menu. We had the Seafood Grill, the Calamari was a bit on the bland side, although the Salmon was excellent! I had the Wildlife Meatloaf a combination of elk and venison. I do know wild meat and it was missing something, maybe a red wine sauce rather than a gravy. The desert was ok. Sweet Potato Cheesecake should make it pop. Missing some spices.

“Nice room, forgettable food and service”
Reviewed December 4, 2012 via mobile

Iron Goat occupies a fine, Canmore alpine style building with floor to wiling windows and a south facing view over the Bow Valley. Unfortunately, my burger was dry and the service was very tentative. Our waitress was very nice but was new and super nervous.

I have had much better Canmore meals at the Trough, the Silver Tip golf club restaurant and Crazy Weed.

“Just Okay”
Reviewed December 4, 2012

I had been to the Iron Goat a little over a year ago and had nothing but good things to say so I was excited to go again. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a disappointment.

The service: The waitress didn't know what some of the menu items were. We asked about the signature beer and she could tell us nothing about it (type of beer, dark or light, anything???). We asked about the desserts and again she couldn't tell us. She had to go ask. The wait staff in a restaurant with this price point should know what the items on the menu are and at least some basic info about everything on there. Wine was forgotten until reminded. Drinks sat empty while we tried to flag her down.

The food: Again, it was okay. The bruschetta appetizer was lovely. The calamari was slightly over cooked and had very little flavor. The kobe oscar burger was slightly under cooked and still a bit pink in the centre.

The good: The views and atmosphere are great. They were also willing to accommodate my picky daughter by making her vanilla icecream with chocolate sauce for dessert when she didn't want to try any of the dessert offerings.

The bad: The hostess refused to call us a cab (her response was "HUH? We don't do that.) and insisted that we instead call long distance from our cell to get one. Someone, I think the manager, happened to catch wind of this when we were discussing it outside and apologized saying that the girl was only 14 and that we would talk to her. I would think this would be one of the key things to tell your hostesses on day one. Here's the house phone and here's how to call the people a cab.

Would we go back? No, probably not.

“What a view!”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

Loving the high ceilings and wooden beams! Great big windows overlook the mountains.

We only stopped in for a quick pint and a small snack so weren't able to really take in the menu. Though we can say that the crab & lobster dip is very tasty! The blue nacho chips that were served with the dip are salted with a housemade concoction that we really enjoyed. We were talked into some special coffees that warmed us through!

Can't wait to come back and try more things on the menu!
