“best place to stay in the rockies”
Reviewed July 30, 2011

This was our second stay at Blackstone and both vists were great. From check in to check out we couldn't have asked for better service and the employees were friendly, courteous and there to help whenever they could. The rooms were neat and clean with all the ammenities including a full kitchen, 2 modern bathrooms and complete laundry service. The location was awesome, the view was great and the pool was the main attraction for the kids. Reasonable rates, easy driving distance to Lake Louise, Banff, and many local attractions, make Blackstone Mountain Lodge an ideal place to stay

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a patio or balcony for outside sitting - balcony rooms have a better view becaus...

We had a quiet, spacious suite. View was great. Pool was clean. I would stay there again.

This is am excellent hotel.

The hotel itself is fairly new and clearly well mainlined. There is a spacious underground car park with lofts from there to reception and the rooms.

The reception staff were smiling helpful and efficient.

Most important, our suite had aeverything we needed. A fully featured kitchen - dining room, small laundry room with washer-dryer, a most comfortable bedroom and, of course bathroom.

All at a very competitive rate.

I can recommend this with enthusiasm and confidence.

We stayed here for 4 nights in July 2011 during our visit to Banff and Jasper National Parks. Although Canmore is a 10-15 minute drive from Banff, the price for this place was way less than any of the places in Banff townsite so we did not mind the short drive. Our group consisted of two couples so we rented a two-bedroom unit. We had a glorious view of the snow capped mountains from our balcony! The living room, as well as both bedrooms, have a door to the balcony which was nice. The unit included stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, a full kitchen with cooking supplies, flat screen TV, and even Aveda toiletries in the bathrooms. We also appreciated the underground, secure parking as it appeared some of the other lodges in the area only offered street parking. The only thing some people might not like is the fact that they don't do a full room cleaning each day. They only restocked towels and toiletries on a daily basis, then they did a full clean with beds made on the 3rd day we were there. However, we really didn't mind this personally. After 4 nights here, we stayed one night at Lake Louise and 3 nights in Jasper and Blackstone Mountain Lodge was the least expensive and (by far) nicest place we stayed on the entire trip! We will definitely stay there again when we go back.

Hello Caverwendyt,

I do also have to agree that it is perfect to stay/live in Canmore because of it being a lot quieter than Banff but it a short drive away if you do want to visit Banff. I am happy to hear that your two bedroom suite and the resort exceeded your expectations and was the best play that you stayed at on your trip.

With regards to the housekeeping service, we do provide vacation style service with full cleans happening every 4th morning.

I hope that you are able to come back and visit us in the mountains soon,

Kiley Dare

Wow! I will say that this place is NICE! Was pleasantly surprised actually. We ended up moving 3 times in our 3 night stay, which was very disappointing, however....along with a few other things.

The good:

*Excellent location! Canmore is the way to go if you are going into Banff. It's about 10-15 minute drive but away from the hustle and bustle of BUSY Banff. And, it's a cute little town of it's own. VERY glad we stayed there vs. Banff.
* The property is fairly new.... 2 years old, I believe. LOVE being able to have a 1 or 2 bedroom suite. The rooms are laid out very nicely. TIP--- ask for a room away from the highway.
* Parking is underground and secure!
* Free internet
* Hotel employees at front desk are very nice... it's almost hard to get upset with them (Katherine is who we dealt with mostly.... very pleasant and sweet).
* VERY clean! I felt like I was at home and I'm a PICKY person when it comes to clean rooms! Great job!
* Great kitchen/den area!

The bad:
* Air didn't work in the first suite. It was a confusing system. We turned it on for about 3 hours and came back and the temperature had not moved. We asked for maintenance to come up. The man came and was nice but basically said there was nothing he could do and to call the front desk.
* Got moved to a second room and was satisfied.... Katherine really tried to help us out by moving us into a "hotel" style room and a 1 bedroom unit, which was fine with us... all things considered.
* However, we find out that we can't stay in this room because it was already taken (after unpacking), so we moved 3 times in 3 nights. Kind of took away from staying someplace for 3 nights straight.
* They were VERY nice to offer us one night free, which was a really nice gesture and meant a lot for the management to do this without me having to get upset. Like I said, they were so accommodating that it was hard to get too upset. Thanks!!! :)
* Ended up leaving something in room #2 and spoke to the front desk. You can't find anything left very easily. Was told that they would call me within 30 minutes after we checked out and I've yet to hear from them. Disappointing!

Overall, it was a great stay! We loved the area! Loved the hotel! Loved the rooms most of all (especially when the air worked...ha) and the staff was great. Next time we are hoping to stay put in ONE room and not have to worry about packing.

WOULD MOST DEFINITELY stay here again! Stay here! You won't regret it! Wished they had called me back about my phone charger, but other than that and the moves, it was AWESOME!

Hello Debtoe,

Thank you very much for all of the feedback both good and bad. We have taken steps to help reduce any chance of a guest having to be moved during their stay due to the room issues with regards to the air conditioning and the booking issue that caused you to move from the second to the third room.

I am very glad to hear that all things considered you had a great stay and I will most certainly use all of your feed back to increase our level of service to provide greater guest service.

If you could let me know what type of phone charger that you forgot in the second room, I will look into it for you. Please contact my either via email (stay@blackstoneresort.ca) or telephone (403-609-8098) and put Attention Kiley

Thank you very much and I hope you are able to visit us again soon,

Kiley

We got a terrific deal on this hotel by visiting the company website. We were very happy with our room and the facilities. The room was beautiful and the fully stocked kitchen & dining room was a huge bonus as we were traveling with a child; it allowed us to stay in for a nice supper without having to eat out of styrophoam containers on the edge of a bed.
My only complaint would be that the rooms were not cleaned daily, only stocked with toiletries. It would have nice to at least have the bedmade up. Also the pool was very busy. With that said, we would definitely stay here again.

Hello x_static25,

Thank you for your comments with regards to the daily housekeeping. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the full kitchen and the specials that we do have on our website from time to time. With regards to housekeeping, we do provide a vacation style service which does not make the beds daily, which in turn enables us to provide great rates on great rooms.

Thank you once again,

I had the pleasure of spending a night at the Blackstone in Canmore for a biking event in the town during the month of June.

After spending the previous 4 years working in the resort industry I have spent many years with guest experience in hotels and how rooms should be for guests. This hotel was fantastic. Highlights were 2 spacious bedrooms, large living area etc and alll the amenities stocked.

If you are looking for a high quality hotel in walking distance to town that is quiet the look no further. You won't be disappointed .
