“Stop was very good...”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

As part of our travel plan we intentionaly have chosen Hinton to spend the night before proceeding to Jasper and decided to stay at Econo Lodge. The front desk personnel I think his name is Radu was polite and helpful in meeting our needs. Showed us the breakfast area to make sure we will not get lost. This place is huge compared to other Econo Lodge I have been before. Econolodge Hinton is built to specs, huge paved with lines parking lot. Room we stayed in was huge with a king size bed, cleaned and washed linens. What surprised me was the jacussi inside the bedroom, though we did not use it we still like having it inside rather than inside the bathroom. WiFi has strong signal thus enable us to touched base with family. If you are in for Japanese meal for dinner there you have it inside the facility (I think the name is Tokyo Sushi) what a delight, nothing to worry about rain at all. Breakfast is typical continental yet fills you enough to get to Jasper making this stop a very good one.

Hinton AB is a small town by the rail road tracks. Located about 40 miles from Jasper, it is an economical alternative. It has the staples of grocery stores and chain restaurants so it is a great place to stock up on supplies if you are exploring the Canadian Rockies on a budget. There are quite a few other hotels that don't advertise on the travel boards so you might wish to take the gamble and just show up in town to get a room.
The Econo lodge needs some repair. A few of the sockets in our room were out of order and the Internet connection was awful. They have one home router in the lobby to supply the entire first floor. We ended up going to the 24 hour McDonald's for Internet and coffee instead. It's no wonder there's a growling bear in the IGA parking lot across the street from the hotel:)
All in all, don't expect much at the hotel. Rooms are small and beds are not very comfortable. However, you aren't paying $300+ a night either.

My family stayed for a night at the Econolodge on our way to Jasper. We appreciated how clean the hotel was but the decor was bland and the floors were creaky.
Our low end out of date tv had several buttons missing and the remote had a sticky substance on it and it didn't work. We went back to the front desk a couple times to get new remotes but none of the replacements worked either.
I was going to get some ice but the ice bucket had a white powdery substance stuck in the corners instead the bucket.
We decided to just get some rest so we could have a good day of snowboarding in the morning but found it difficult because the beds were so unbelievably uncomfortable! I felt like I was sleeping on the ground and woke up stiff.
The breakfast room was a nice surprise with many options well stocked and a nice tv that worked ;)
We will not stay here again as there are several other options that we have frequented for the same price with a much more comfortable night.

My wife and I stayed one night Sept 30, we selected the king + hot tube..... Very nice room, clean, quite new, modern. The price of $110 was fine. The breakfast was basic, we instead went to McDonalds....... Bed was comfy, the TV, once we phoned front desk, was workable........ Did not try the WiFi, as front desk declared it patchy at best, albeit a new system was ensuing.

Room Tip: Avoid the Sushi!

This is a fairly basic hotel, but the rooms are large and comfortable, equipped with mini-fridges and microwaves for travellers and close to restaurants, 2 grocery stores and a mall. The room A/C could be adjusted easily and was comfortable. The free breakfast was average and fine, although we were not too keen on the continuous monitoring by staff that nothing leave the room as sometimes we like to eat in our room when it is crowded. I guess they have been subject to excessive use of the breakfast to fill lunch bags.

24 hour/day coffee in the lobby was appreciated,

One morning a wolf passed by the rear breakfast room window only 20 feet away.

Room is ok,clean. But wifi is bad, can't connect, tried so many times, if ever get connect, it's only for a few seconds, even tried early morning 5am,still not successful. Tv remote, even press so hard, can't change channel.
Wouldn't stay here again, this is our second stay at econolodge, seems like Econolodge everywhere about the same.

The facilities in this hotel are average, nothing to write home about, nothing much to complain about either except that the internet WiFi signal was so weak as to be unavailable the whole evening we spent there before sleeping. The continental breakfast is typically average: cold cereals, toasts, bagels, boiled eggs, yogurt, instant hot cereals, and fruits. The thing that is the breaker is management had instructed staff not to tear up or destroy the credit card imprint needed for damage deposit. Almost all places I know tear them up when I checked out. Here I am told they cannot do that as management wants to keep the imprint. Whatever for I do not know.
BE AWARE OF THIS WHEN YOU BOOK.
