“Weekend Away is a Sucess”
Reviewed September 20, 2008

We booked this hotel for myself and three others for a girls weekend away. We booked a one bedroom and den, there was more than enough room for us four but really any more would of been tight.

Love the kitchen/bath that were fully equipped. TVs in each room!

The pool area was very nice but we didn't visit it for any extended period.

Only downside was room need a deeper clean, cobwebs in chandelier and in corners, but nothing serious.

I took my daughter and grandchildren to Osyoos for a weekend and we stayed at this hotel. From the time you walk in the door to the time you leave all the staff are very friendly and professional.Even when the power was out in Osoyoos due to a lightening strike the staff remained calm. The rooms are excellent, more than enough space for two adults and two teenagers! Love the view of the lake from our balcony. The hot tubs and pool got a lot of use from us and others but we noticed lots of guests sunbathing on the private beach and playing in the lake.
We didn't get an opportunity to use the BBQ's provided by the hotel this time but will definitley do so on our next trip and we will be going back.
If you are visiting Osyoos or the area I would absolutely recommend that you stay at this hotel. You will not regret your decision.

We are a family of four and have travelled extensively throughout Western Canada. We found this resort through a travel web-site and quickly booked our 3 day stay. We arrived at the hotel and were totally impressed. We stayed in a one bedroom, pool side room and it was fantastic - granite countertops in the fully equipped kitchenette, king size bed and a comfortable pull-out sofa. The 2 flat screens (with built in dvd player) was a nice touch. We BBQ'd around the pool, and the chef even came over to make sure we had all the proper spices and seasonings to cook our own meal. Overall, this is truly one of the nicest resorts that we have stayed at and will certainly be returning. A special thanks to Ed the waiter and Sonja the Director of Guest Experience for making our stay memorable!!

We just stayed at the Walnut Beach for three nights. Accommodation options in Osoyoos are pretty limited. There seems to be a bunch of fairly nasty hotel / motel types and then some premium resorts such as Nk'mip, Burrowing Owl and this one.

We managed to get the introductory rate of $190 per night for the Chardonnay suite, even though we were at the end of the high season, which wasn't bad. The off season rate of $139 is very reasonable, but the full rate of $209 is a bit steep.

The suite was nicely appointed in a contemporary style, which we like. The facilities such as the pool area, hot tubs and private beach are all great, though we spent much of our time touring the wineries and didn't have much time for lounging. Staff were pleasant enough.

Overall, I think this is probably the best bang for your buck place in Osoyoos at the moment. If you're looking for something very luxurious, I'd go to one of the other resorts, but if you're looking for somewhere nice to get away, and are prepared to pay a little more than for the nasty motels, this is definitely the place to go.

My husband and I stayed at Walnut Beach for three days, and found it to be fairly average. The hotel is advertised as a luxury resort, and while the rooms are finished nicely, it was missing the special touches that would make it a truly memorable place.

Our primary issue was with the customer service. We found the front desk staff to be rather unprofessional. They didn't have much useful information about the Osoyoos area, and we were told a couple of times that we could "find that at the Info Centre" - meaning the Osoyoos Tourist Centre.

Another reviewer has already mentioned this, but we didn't appreciate the $150 that was pre-charged to our credit card, in order to cover incidentals or service from the wine bar. This is something I've never experienced at a luxury hotel before.

When we inquired about the restaurant at a local vineyard, we were told "That's expensive!!" and didn't get any further info (such as phone number, an offer to make us a reservation, etc.)

Our server at the wine bar was uncertain about most menu items and rushed us through our meal/ paying the cheque. The wine menu was really limited, considering the resort is located in the heart of BC wine country!

The patio and pool area look very serene on the website, but the pool was full of people splashing and playing until the wine bar closed, every night.

I actually really enjoyed the pool area, and it was great to see so many kids having a fun holiday. However, the hotel website definitely gave the impression that the wine bar was a more adult-oriented area of the resort - when in fact, it was only separated from the pool by a few metres.

Overall, the hotel was fine, but I think the customer service needs to become much more polished in order for this to be considered a luxury resort. At this point, the service is still rather average.

That said, the location is stunning and the community is a lot of fun - I think Walnut Beach has a lot of potential, if the service issues are addressed.

  • Liked — The views from our room were wonderful!
  • Disliked — The customer service was unprofessional.

We stayed at this resort with another couple for 4 nights at the beginning of August. We were very impressed! Each couple stayed in a studio although the couple we were with upgraded, for $30 per night, to a room with a balcony. It was nice to have the balcony however, we were quite happy to have a room directly across from the pool access door (#130). The pool area was very nice although we did not swim in there as it was quite congested with children. Not that we have anything against kids but this was an 'adult only' mini-vacation so we need not be consumed with guilt by hanging out with 'other people's kids'.

The beach was very nice. Could use a few more lounge chairs but we managed fine. We did end up scooping a couple of chairs that had been left all day with towels draped over them in an effort to 'save' them. It seemed a bit silly that they remained empty while we sat on the ground......so by late afternoon we took claim to them. Pretty sure the folks that were saving them NEVER did come back to claim their towels?!?!

The tapas bar/restaurant was nice......the Sangria was de-lish! What a great way to enjoy the flavor of red wine, combined with fruit/berries & ice, on a hot day! The brie dish was fantastic as well!

The only thing we thought was a bit odd was, there are tables outside for the restaurant but they are ALSO available for those who are using the BBQ facilities. It seemed a bit unfair MANY family's had cooked their meals, brought down their condiments, drinks, dishes, snacks, etc., and then eat at the tables. Some would order drinks, others would not.......at the end of their meal, they would take their stuff and leave HORENDOUS messes for the poor waite staff to clean.......and NO tip either!!! Of course when staff are having to take so much time cleaning and fixing this, they are unable to best serve the customers who are dining in the restaurant. We think they could easily resolve this by having TWO eating areas.......that are clearly separated. One that is specifically designated for restaurant patrons and another with picnic tables or something that are there to cater to the BBQ peeps. Perhaps ONE staff member could be responsible for this area. It was very evident that waite staff were frustrated with having to clean up after people when there was NO benefit in it for them. We could NOT blame them at all!

The underground secure parking was fantastic although if we were to be extra picky, it would be nice if the keylock entry was on a post or something that could be accessed from the vehicle. As it is now, on the wall, you must ALWAYS exit your car to insert the key, in order for the door to open.

The resort is very clean, very updated and MOST of the staff - VERY friendly and helpful.

The bed/bedding/pillows, EXTREMELY comfortable.

There is a lovely paved walkway along the lake that is perfect for walking, running, roller-blading or strollers.

Overall, we loved it here and without question, we will return. Next time we will bring the kids!

Certainly one of the best, if not best hotel in Osoyoos right now, mostly owing to the position on the lakefront, nice pool scene and the fact the hotel is so new. Room fairly basic with cooktop, fridge, microwave, dishwasher but hotel is surprisingly already showing some wear and tear. Rooms could be cleaner too. Hopefully management/the owners stay on top of the condition as I would like to go back to this one in the future and would hate to see it let go.
