“So overpriced for what you get and lacks service”
Reviewed August 14, 2011

First at checkin we got attitude for wanting to check in 1 hour early... we realized that check in was 3pm and just asked if our room might be ready and basically was yelled out.. for the amount of $ this hotel charges, we expected better service. Then the bad service continued throughout our stay.. the drinks at the beach were horrible (althought the waitress at the beach was friendly and nice). We will definatel NEVER come back to this place. It's like 1 star service for a 3 start hotel... i cannot believe they call this 4 star resort.

Sorry that your experience at check-in was as you described it. That is definitely not the standard greeting at our resort. Our check-in and check-times are posted on our website and in our confirmation emails and letters, 4pm is the check-in time and 11am is the check-out time. In the busy summer months, our goal is to get the suites ready for check-in as early as we can get into them to prepare and in some cases, with check-out being 11am, we cannot get all the arrival suites prepared for the incoming guest until 4pm and that is why we guarantee a 4pm check-in. If the room is ready earlier we let the arriving guests in when they get here, if the room is not ready before 4pm and the incoming guest arrives, we offer the guest full use of the facilities and we will take their luggage and store it until the room is ready, taking the luggage to the suite for the guest and then the guest just comes to the Front desk to get their room keys any time after 4pm. I apologize for that not being explained to you at check-in.

As for your comments regarding the drinks from the bar, was it the quality of the beverage or service you are referring to?

My boyfriend and I had an amazing weekend at the resort. The service, the room and the food was outstanding. I highly recommend the pasta for dinner! We will definitely go back again! If you are looking for a great place to stay in Osoyoos, this is it! Make sure you request a balcony with lakeview, the view is spectacular. Thanks Sonja, Director of Resort Operations, for you amazing customer service.

We just returned from a 3 day stay at the Walnut Beach Resort and were very disappointed in the resort. In fact, I would describe it as "a zoo". After arriving hot and tired from our drive from Vancouver we were looking forward to a cool dip and relaxing in a lounge chair by the pool. Dream on!! There were no lounge chairs to be had either by the pool or on the tiny beach area. When I complained at the desk, I was brushed off and told to come back in the morning and talk to the activites director. The following day we were able to secure two lounge chairs by the pool and were "entertained" by throngs of kids in the pool on floaties, groups of kids running around with huge water guns and parents throwing footballs in the pool. The water in the pool also looked very murky so we gave it a miss. The guests who planned to spend the day on the beach had staked out their chairs with towels very early (possibly before dawn?) so anyone getting down to beach after 8 a.m. was out of luck.
Considering the high end rates this resort charges the hotel was lacking in cleanliness. The hallway rugs on the 3rd floor were filthy and the windows by the elevator looked like they had never been cleaned. The whole place needs a complete scrub down.
The only positive for us was the lovely view of the lake from the resort. Needless to say we won't be back.

Families are over 80% of the the business in the Osoyoos accommodation sector in July and August and from the 15th of July to the 15th of August, it doesn't get any busier at any other time of the year. We have more loungers on the pool deck and beach than we have suites at the resort. We also have signs posted around the resort and information in the welcome letter that every guests receives at check-in that states no reserving of pool or beach furniture. We still need to go around each morning and take belongings off the chairs that people have put on them to attempt reserving them. This is a constant all summer and we continually monitor for this but it still happens in between our checks of the area. Our beach is completely raked and re-staged each morning starting at 7am so any towels on lounger would be removed at that time, but again, people try to reserve the chairs as soon as we are not looking.

As for the carpets, we deep clean the carpets with a professional carpet extractor at least once per week on each floor as with complimentary BBQs for guests to use located on the pool deck result in people taking their food from the suites to the BBQ's and back to the suites after cooking and many drips of food and grease fall to the carpets and get trampled on by the large volume of guests in the resort. The challenge becomes when you do wash the carpets, you need to keep people from walking on it until it dries and in the summer months, it is impossible and what can happen is the carpets look worse after they are washed than before we started, they get trampled on with dirty feet and shoes and it looks like black mud on the carpets. Regardless, we keep washing the carpets repeatedly in attempt to keep the carpets looking as best as we can. This is not an issue for 10 months of the year here, only the peak occupancy months.

Being situated right on the lake in this desert climate, spiders, fruit flies and the birds that eat them are a huge challenge for any type of structure on the lake shore. Spider webs are constant and can be created in minutes. We can completely clean off the exterior of the building one day only to find replacement webs created within hours of the ones we have removed. Same with the windows, we use professional window washer to scale the outside of the building to clean the windows through out the year, the last time was in the beginning of July, before the t3 day job was completed, there was bird residue and cobwebs on the windows just cleaned. It is a constant battle with mother nature.

Very beautiful hotel directly on the lake Osoyoos. The view on the lake from the balcony is magnificent. We had 5 exceptional days in our suite that is very well equipped.
2 negative points:
Certain days, the housekeeping crew came late in the afternoon (after 4 p.m.).
The pool area is at the same time "playground" for children. So it's very noisy. There is no other place for the children.

Room Tip: Book only a room with lakeview!!!!

We just got back from our stay at Walnut Beach Resort! It was a great location, great beach for the kids. Everything was great until we gave our little kids their first bath and starting noticing the dust and dirt on the baseboards and tile floors. I used a white face cloth to clean the bathroom floor alongside the baseboard from the tub to the door, the white cloth was black after one swipe - a little disgusting!! The towel bars were dusty on the side, the top of the fridge, etc. The only reason I noticed this kind of stuff is for the fact that we are paying $350. a night. I have never walked into a condo/hotel that I would consider high end, and seen that kind of dirt!!! We did enjoy the resort, just the room needed to be cleaner - if I was paying $100 - $150 for a cabin, then I can handle dirt!!

My husband and I stayed at the Walnut Beach Resort July 27th for one night on our way home from summer vacation!! We were looking forward to enjoying the sun at the pool and beach area prior to journeying home the next day. I love children and enjoy seeing them have fun, but due to the noise I only lasted a few minutes longer than my husband before heading back to the suite. I had hoped to enjoy sitting on the quiet of the balcony, but unfortunately our room was directly above a giant air conditioning unit. Had we planned a longer stay the room location would not have suited our needs.

We spent the balance of the afternoon in the suite which was amazingly quiet. I found the suite to be well appointed from the kitchen to the bath, bedroom and living area. I cooked dinner in the kitchen and we ate at the diningroom table. We had planned to swim in the evening but the pool looked uninvitingly cloudy. The beach area is also a bit small for the size of the resort but the area had quieted down around suppertime. All things considered we would return but definitely not during the summer months!!

Our contact with the staff was limited but we found them pleasant and helpful.

Walnut Beach Resort had everything we needed for a few days away with the kids. I travelled for the first time without my husband. The resort's secured parking and location made me feel safe. The location was quiet - away from the craziness of downtown. The kids loved the pool and the private beach area. We mostly made meals in room, but I loved that there was access to bbqs. We did have dinner al fresco at the restaurant one evening. It's on the pricey side and I had to send back my steak as it was overcooked. Would think twice before eating dinner there again.
