“Not original Japanese, but good overall”
Review of Ajisen Ramen

Ajisen Ramen was found at Kumamoto, Japan in 1968. Currently Ajisen Ramen already have 400 plus chain in worldwide.

If you've been to Japan and dined on the plethora of fantastic Ramen there, you will appreciate Ajisen.
Always a good sign when the cooks are Japanese in a Japanese restaurant and patrons are plentiful. Soup is made in a Kumamoto Style (Heavier than Tokyo style) called Tonkotsu and is delicious.

I've enjoyed many a decent meal at Ajisen Ramen in Tokyo, and so I naturally expected similar at their chain store in Toronto.

Unfortunately, taste not original Japanese, but good overall.

Score: 10/20. Busy Japanese franchise specialising in ramen. However, don't expect to find shiyo, miso or tonkotsu ramen. This Japanese franchise blurs tradition and borders, when it comes to ramen, to the extent that this no longer taste or feel like a ramen house. Instead of the highly favoured tonkotsu, Ajisen serves the house special "tenderous ribs ramen" - wonderfully tender and delicious slow cooked ribs served disappointingly in a weakly aromatic pork broth. The noodle itself was bland and looked too perfect to be hand or housemade. Prompt kitchen not matched by poor waiting service (considering the staff to client ratio). 5 stars=18-20 points, 4 stars=15-17 points, 3 stars=13-14 points, 2 stars=11-12 points, 1 star=9-10 points, 0 star=8 or less points.
