We stayed near Deep Cove and thought the town was lovely. We rented kayaks for two hours and had a great time. Saw several seals and enjoyed paddling on the calm waters. The downtown area is quaint with good dining. We ate at The Arms Reach (excellent), and had a yummy donut at Honey's. Definitely worth a stop if you are in North Vancouver.

Deep Cove is a great place to go as a couple or with children for a picnic and a leisurely stroll. If you are on the North Shore then make a quick trip down with a picnic and enjoy the view.

This is a good spot in the summer but equally as beautiful (and very very quiet) in the winter!

If you are in Vancouver for more than couple of days, take the time to make the 15 -20 minute drive northeast to Deep Cove, a tiny and lovely little hamlet with a wonderful quay and harbor on Indian Arm, which is the most southerly sea fjord on the west coast of North America. Just coross Lions Gate Bridge and head to highway 1A east. This would be a great outing for a family who wants to try something new and adventurous -- a full or half day kayaking outing in sheltered waters with great scenery. The town is small but has a number of nice places to eat and shops with atractive items. The park at the small harbor has a parking lot and a gravel beach beside the marina, where Deep Cove Outfitters maintains an impressive kayak livery. You can either rent the gear for your own use or sign on to a group tour with a guide (which I recommend for beginners). You can spot jellyfish and sea urchins in the water, petroglyphs on the rock walls around some of the islands and seals popping their heads out of the water or lolling on the floating docks. More adventurous sorts can take a two day camping trip paddling all the way up the fjord. Even if one or more family doesn't feel like paddling, they could hang out in town or the park and enjoy themselves while the others take a trip. The outfitter rents stand-up boards, too, which seem to be quite the rage -- a huge surfboard that you propel with a long-shaft paddle. It's a very picturesque and tranquil place -- kind of a nice change from the bustling sites of downtown.
