This is one of my favorite local spots. Not only is the dam in a gorgeous setting amongst the mountains and the start of the famous salmon spawning Capilano River; it connects to many trails that loop around to north and west Vancouver. You can walk from the dam in North Van, all the way to Ambleside Park in West Vancouver if you wish! Trails are easy for all fitness levels and well marked. Follow the signs to the fish hatchery to see the Salmon spawning and watch eagles and Ospreys in the trees near the rivers edge. Wild birds zoom up and down the river and look closely to find small birds dipping into the river to eat snails off the rocks. A wildlife paradise if you stop, listen and look closely. Large old growth tree is visible along one of the trails. Great for joggers. hikers and easy off leash walks with the dog. In the summertime, you can watch hang gilders and para-sailers float off the top of Grouse Mnt. Always an enjoyable place
