Second visit to Yaas. Very basic, no-frills type of place serving large helpings of kebabs, mostly lamb and chicken, and some seafood. Too meaty for my liking, but will appeal for its pricing and quantity, if not quality, of each dish.

The fixed menu combinations are fairly good, basically kebabs and skewers, with rice or salad. The prices are between $8~$10 per dish. Good sized portions. Tried a aerated yogurt drink (bottled) which I could not finish.

so I have been at this restaurant on numerous occasions. The food is decent for the price. Sunday, April 08th 2013 I was waiting for my order while we sat at a table by the kitchen. There I saw the female cook (she is not new, has been with Yaas for years) THREAD the meat on the kabob (with gloves) RIGHT BESIDE a plate with rice/salad that was waiting for a cooked kabab. I watched in HORROR how all the blood was splashing onto the salad. Then she put the raw meat away and continued cooking kabab. She placed the cooked kabab in the plate PLUS closed a couple of to-go trays WITH HER GLOVED BLOODIED HAND!!!!!!!!!!!! never changed the glove and touched people's cooked food! This by all means is TOTALLY DISGUSTING AND UNACCEPTABLE! All this prep was done in a tiny middle island that they have, so no room for the to go Tupperware, customer plates and RAW MEAT prep. This really made me think twice of going to eat out anymore. It totally grossed me out!!!!!!! Never eating there again.

Yaas restaurant has significantly ameliorated for the past few months since they introduced new meals to their menu, such as the salmon fish kabab and the chicken kubideh.. both so tender and tasty.
the fish kabab is actually marinated in olive oil, which makes the fish so tender!
and the chicken kubideh... oh wow!!

they also have tanoors.. which bakes fresh bread right in front of you in a minute! you can also order bread for take out.

Everything has really nicely improved, it is now under a new management and definitely better care.

Tried this place again since they moved a few blocks south on Lonsdale ave. Good selection of kebab's and stews. Most mains come with a generous portion of rice. I selected the lamb shank and it really was good. The grilled kebabs are good, the table also had the chicken and the beef. A pretty solid option for quick, affordable food on the North Shore.
