Our recent lunch at The Lobby at the Pinnacle at the Pier Hotel was a delight. Our reservation allowed us free parking in the parkade next door although you have to approach the entrance to it off Lonsdale from eastbound Carrie Cates Court from Chesterfield.
The decor is elegant and calming. There is plenty of room and the tables are spaced well so as to not have to sit too close to others, which provides a sense of privacy as well. There is a bar down one side of the room and a lounge with comfortable armchairs. The majority of the space is dedicated to dining.
It is the third time I have eaten at The Lobby and as usual, the server this day was personable, knowledgeable about the menu and provided service in a timely, attentive and thoughtful way. I think we ordered a bit more than we would have actually, because the server explained dessert in a way that made it sound terrific. And it was.
I had the seafood chowder and the Quinoa salad. The chowder, served hot, was a tomato broth and was rich with chunks of salmon, white fish and clams. Moving on to the Quinoa salad was a different experience. The salad was quite oily. The oil left an aftertaste and was a surprise because a previous version on another visit was just perfect. My companion had the Cobb salad which was a good size, looked very appetizing and disappeared accordingly. The contents were hard boiled egg, cherry tomatoes, smoked bacon, avocado and chicken breast and mixed greens.
For dessert we shared a chocolate confection: three cake doughnuts accompanied by liquid dipping chocolate, a gooseberry and a strawberry each.
Seafood at this restaurant is Ocean Wise. There is a gluten free menu for those who need these options. They even had a 3 course dinner option in honour of the Olympics, with wine pairings. Nice tip of the hat to our athletes. They also participate in Open Table when in effect.
Cost was pleasantly realistic for a hotel restaurant. Because of that and the fact that portion size was decent, I would say this restaurant provides good value. There is no view out the floor to ceiling windows unless you consider a concrete parking lot and alley way scenic but the interior makes up for that. And just a short 5 minute walk to the waterfront will provide plenty of views of the harbour.
I highly recommend.
