“Endless fun for toddlers and preschoolers”
Reviewed October 28, 2011

My son and I have been "regulars" here since he was a baby, and it never gets old. He asks to go there even when given other choices like the Aquarium.

The staff are great and I highly recommend the behind-the-scenes experiences ("Farmer for a day") for any kid who is interested in animals, life on the farm or simply food and where it comes from. Bring veggies to feed the bunnies, or you can always buy seed to throw to the chickens and ducks. Be sure to leave some time at the end of your visit for the playground just across the parking lot!

“Like a living museum..”

I found this place disappointing. I guess it's some Government regulation but children are not allowed to feed the animals and so the animals have absolutely no interest whatsever in saying hello to the people. Adults and children wander around the paddock edges as the animals stand in the middle and get stared at. Both sides somewhat bewildered. Even lambs didn't want to come over to the fences and the 'free range' chickens were locked away!
I grew up with all sorts of animals and have never, ever been sick. If parents won't wash their children's hands before they eat and end up getting a sick child, that's their fault, why should everyone else have to pay the price for their negligence?
The pygmy goat area was OK, but again, the animals showed no interest in the children, they just sat and chewed the cud. I don't necessarily think animals should be there for the entertainment of children, but usually it's a mutually beneficial situation, the children get to fiddle with some goat ears and the goats get the eat some hay or bits of clothing!
I would recommend going if you or your child are nervous around anything with more than two legs or wings as the exposure you will get is minimal. If like me or my child you enjoy and appreciate 'contact' then I think you'll be disappointed.

“Great place for preschoolers!”
Reviewed April 14, 2006

Kids can get close to goats and rabbits, free range chickens and ducks. On our visit we saw lots of farn babies - chicks, bunnies, kids, lambs and a baby burro. Lots of benches and picnic tables for snacks or lunch. The farm is clean, safety conscious and the animals are friendly. Fun and very affordable way to spend a couple hours (we spent 2 hours with a 2.5 year old).

“Maplewood Farm is wonderful”
Reviewed November 27, 2005

Maplewood Farm is a great place to go to learn about rural living. The farm is in a great location with surrounding creeks and wilderness.
The animals are very friendly, my family particularily enjoyed the 'Goat Hill Gang'. A place where folks can visit goats and sheep in their natural environment. The goats are very curious and adorable, especially the babies!
The staff are all very nice and knowledgeable, they even have a milking demonstration every day!
And to top it off the farm is so affordable! I highly recommend it to travellers and locals alike!
