“Hotel with Everything”
Reviewed April 8, 2012

Stayed at The Hotel at River Rock for the first time April, 3. It is located across the street from the original Hotel. It doesn't have suits, just king or 2 queen rooms. It is fairly new and still has a new smell, nice! The rooms have a bit of technology You need your room key to turn the electricity on in the room. No lights left on once you leave. You need your room key to access your floor from the elevator. You are only able to go to your floor. The safe in the room uses your room key as well, and only one of your room keys. Very easy access to Skytrain. You are practically in the station. Short sky walk over to the main hotel and casino. The Hotel also has its own front desk, but you can still check in at the main desk as well. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are adequate. The views leave a lot to be desired, mostly views of the light industrial area around the River Rock. I liked my stay and will definitely go back. The whole complex gives you easy access to Vancouver and you have a full casino to play in.

Dear Willbetrvling,

Thank you for your kind review. I am glad to see you were able to use the Canada Line to access Vancouver as it is such a great asset to our property. The key cards are one of the newest additions to the property. We are trying to reduce our green footprint and save electricity in our rooms while continuing to serve our guests with the newest technology.
If you are looking for a water view, the Marina View Rooms in The Resort may be up your alley as they have wonderful views of the river.

Kindest Regards,
Roland Monteiro

Stayed here a couple times in the past year and a half for a couple boys trip getaways, once for Golf and another for a Canucks game. Stayed in a suite both times which was excellent. Nicely furnished newer rooms with very comfortable beds and spacious layout. Rooms also have flat screen HD TVs with small refrigerator but oddly no mini bar, which they need to change. The lobby areas of the resort along with the casino were all very well kept and nicely finished, somewhat reminiscent of a smaller less over the top Vegas hotel. Casino has live bands and usually a couple of decent go-go dancers gyrating near the black jack tables. There are a ton of slot machines/money suckers and a fair number of card tables, but usually only one craps table and one roulette table open. Bar drinks are not comped and are pretty expensive. There is a decent little food fair set-up in the back corner of the casino floor which includes a White Spot burger outlet and an excellent Chinese noodle hut. I ordered a filet mignon from room service during one of my stays which was one of the best steaks I've ever had, but was not cheap at around $46 plus tip. Plan on staying here again on future road trips with the boys. Service and security were very good here as well it was just over $200 for a suite which sleeps 2 to 4 people last time I went in October 2011.

Room Tip: Rooms higher up have better views, try to book a suite

Dear Morningwood,

I am glad to hear you had a great time staying at the River Rock with your friends! Our "Guys Night Out Package" is definitely a big seller and a great reason to spend a weekend away. We work very hard to continuously upgrade, refresh and renew our product for our guests to enjoy and you must have stayed in our newly renovated suites. I will pass your feedback on to the staff.
We currently do not include a mini bar in the rooms but many of our outlets do serve liquor for your pleasure. We hope to have you and your friends soon and thank you for your patronage.

Regards,

Roland Monteiro

The Hotel at River Rock is not to be confused with the Resort at River Rock. The Hotel opened in October 2011, whereas the Resort has been open for several years. I stayed at the Hotel this past weekend for one night. Upon check-in, the front desk agent explained that the rooms in the Hotel were smaller than those found in the Resort as this property was meant to cater to business travellers taking advantage of the proximity to the airport, and the adjacent Canada Line station. Despite this, we found the room to be a good size with and didnt feel like a bare bones business hotel. The room has a nicely appointed bathroom with a deep soaker tub. Coffee and tea is provided in room via a personal sized Nespresso machine. A flat screen TV is a nice touch as are the modern Bang and Olufsen phones. All guest services info is viewable on the TV as are menus of all the restarants and lounges.

Where this hotel falls down is the construction and sound proofing. For whatever reason, the sound insulation is pretty poor and we kept hearing people from above dropping things on the ground. Noise from the hallway was also unusually audible and we heard a lot of doors opening and cloding. The bathroom door had a pretty bad squeak, too, and the toilet in the washroom kept flushing on its own. Also, though this is not the fault of the hotel, we were awakened at about 2 am by a very drunk guest and he party who were pounding on thedoors and yelling and crying...

Overall this hotel has a great location for accessing transit and the airport via the Canada Line. All the amenities of the Resort are extended to Hotel guests so this is welcome as the Hotel property itself has no gym or pool. I would recommend this hotel if someone wanted to be close to the airport for a short stay, or had to be in Richmond moreso than in Vancouver during their visit.

The first two times I stayed at the resort were several years ago as a Mom and Daughter getaway. During one stay we enjoyed a Julio Iglesias concert and the other stay we had spa treatments.
Last summer my husband and I stayed for our 19th Anniversary. Upon check-in when I mentioned that we were celebrating, the clerk upgraded us which was very kind. We had purchased a package that included a 6-pack of beer each day. Unfortunately the second night this was overlooked.
This time, I was travelling with children and they enjoyed their stay as well. At check-in there was a note on my file from the previous stay that showed that the beer had been overlooked. I was offered the option of having the beer or a bottle of wine instead which was very much appreciated. We were also upgraded again.
We made use of the pool and the kids had a ball.
The only disappointment was that the hot tub was luke warm and the beds were too soft which made for an uncomfortable sleep.
All 4 stays were in the older part of the hotel with wonderful views of the river and planes flying overhead.
The atmosphere, amenities and service will bring me back again.

Dear WalkerTravellers,

I am very glad to hear that you enjoyed your experience with us and that you are also a return customer. Our Serta beds are definitely comfortable but I apologise if you found them too soft. Next time you come and stay with us, you should try The Hotel at River Rock. We have just opened The Hotel in Octover 2011 and they are wonderful rooms with top of the line amenities. I appreciate the time you took to give us your feedback and look forward to having you back again soon!

Kind Regards,
Roland Monteiro

My friend and I booked a room at The Hotel @ the River Rock, since we were going to see Gladys Knight in its lounge. The amenities were awesome - insanely great beds, luxurious bathroom, delish espresso coffee, lovely bathrobes & towels - free wifi - really nothing to complain about, much to rave about. You could hardly hear the airplanes flying by - great soundproofing! Free breakfast at The Buffet was fresh and yummy. Dinner at Curve (seafood salad) was amazing. Friendly staff. Would definitely come here again.

Signage seemed to direct you to the $12 valet parking, since if you didn't take this option, you'd need to go down the street to the free hotel parking that was quite a walk (bring luggage w/wheels!). We walked all lover the place trying to find the reception desk, checked in at the Casino side, but were then sent across the street to a room with the worst view I've ever seen. Industrial, dumpsters, railroad tracks...and the skytrain made noise the entire night, although we didn't hear any of the planes overhead. If you want to visit the buffet, go early and get signed it, it was still an hour wait on wkend. But the food was high-quality and tasty; the selection was limited, but they were above average. If you want the pool, casino, food, you had to cross the street or skybridge to get to it. Pool was filled with children, but large enough to still enjoy, and open until midnight. Appreciated that the casino was smoke-free. Rooms were wonderful; bathroom roomy, beds super-comfortable and you get an espresso machine in-room to use. Coffee shop had stale, tasteless pastries, so maybe go somewhere else for breakfast.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the East tower or you'll be out of range of most of the resort activities.

Dear KateSeattle_WA,

Thank you for our feedback from your recent stay with us.
Our valet parking attendants will be more than happy to hold your bags in the front while you park your car, alleviating the carrying of suitcases from the parkade. Also, any of our valet, guest services or concierge department (or any other staff for that matter) are more than happy to help you to the front desk or point you in the right direction. We are here to help you. I will pass on your feedback to our pastry chef regarding the pastries at Java Jacks.

We hope to have you stay with us again soon,

Pros:
Close to home
No smoking
All the amenities of a 4 star (minus mini bar)
Great Room Service
On the skytrain
Free Breakfast buffet (vouchers)
Room at the Hotel was nice, bathroom very nice as well
Wonderful staff
Energy Efficient Hotel
Allow Pets

Cons:
Lacking in casual dining options
Not enough selection at bar/restaurant and not all people want to go to a high end restaurant for dinner before the show.
LuLu's needs to be upgraded. It's not a place where you would want to eat.
We went to Curve because it looked nicer but their menu is trying to hard to be fancy when all we are looking for is a burger or something simple and delicious. Very expensive for a small plate of food. Perhaps take after Cactus Club or Earls and add great affordable comfort food.
Pool needs upgrading
Being a Casino destination, there should be a separate adult pool (the pool area is obviously catering to couples with kids). If they want to be more like Vegas this would be an appropriate move.
Should switch to digital from satellite TV

Dear Jenick44,

Thank you for choosing The River Rock Casino Resort. I will be passing on your feedback regarding out casual dining options to our Executive Chef . Although Lulu's does accomodate the casual diner, it is definitely has more atmosphere in the evenings with our live bands who play nightly. As for Curve, maybe we need to revamp our menu and we will look into this with our management.
Glad you enjoyed our excellent customer service and we hope to have you back again soon
