We definitely saw a lot of whales on this trip in August. The boat was pretty packed, so sometimes, I needed to get in a different spot to take photos, or take the shot from behind someone's shoulder. The guide was definitely very friendly and knowledgeable. But, it was very hard to hear her amongst the sound of the waves and the boat engine. I'm not sure why they don't have a microphone (maybe it's harmful to the animals or will scare the whales away?). The undercover/seating area of the boat was stuffy (which was strange considering there wasn't a door/closed off area). So, if you get seasick very easily, the seating area doesn't actually help. It was better to be outside with the fresh air. Overall, it was a good experience. I'd recommend it if you've never been whale-watching.

I put a lot of research into this experience and made sure I went with a company that was going to work best for my husband and I. We stayed at the Vancouver Hyatt downtown and didn't have transportation to get to a lot of the locations that are south of the city. Seabreeze picked us up only 20 minutes late from our hotel, but took us (and about another 10 visitors) right down to Stevenson where they docked. The process was super easy to check in. The staff were very nice and soon we were off on a boat! We went on one of the covered, heated boats as it was the last run of the year (Oct. 27). It took about 30 minutes to get to the boat, 45 min-1 hr. to get to San Juan Islands and then we saw Humpbacks a few minutes later.

Even if I didn't see whales, the boat ride was gorgeous. We did also see Sea Lions and Seals and a River Otter and Bald Eagle!

Taz and Bobby were our guides and drivers. They were awesome and knowledgable about sea life and I found it interesting that all tour companies actually help eachother out by contacting via radio wherever they see spottings. After all, they all want their industry to strive and do well. I would TOTALLY do it again!

That was a great day. despite the end of the season, the cold and the rain, the trip was memorable when we finally could see different groups of orcas.
The staff is very helpful and passionate on marine life. The comfort is minimal but it's not a caribean cruise vessel. Choosing a covered boat was a real good thing, saw poor guys in an open boat and waterproof suites, must have been freezing.
Don't forget to take a light meal (if your stomach stands it on open waters...) and water resistant gear (hot if the weather is cold).
Good camera equipment is also advised (stabilisator and tele lens as it is bumpy and that you see the animals from a distance).
Anyhow, take the time to look at the whales and if you go between the islands, remember the scenery by itself is just gorgeous.

Nice people. We saw a lot of whales and we followed them Dress up warm. Overall, it was a good experience.

Negative: $15 for the shuttle. I have gone on so many tours. Pick up and drop off was free.

We booked with Seabreeze for a whale watching day while we were in Vancouver but knew that sightings were not guaranteed. As it was we didn't see whales on our first day out but were given a free return and took that offer up the next day. Not only did we see whales on that trip but also sea lions, seals, two types of porpoises and bald eagles. We were picked up from our Vancouver hotel and transferred to Steveston at no charge and also received a nice packed lunch (small charge for this). The naturalist on board, Connie, really knew her stuff and the Captain of the boat worked really hard to ensure that all people on board had a chance to see the whales from their side of the boat. This is a great company and thoroughly recommended.
