“Great Location- Priced Okay-but getting a little tired.”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

Flying in and out of Vancouver- especially to Asia this is a great place to rest up and relax. The pool is one of those swim against the current and one of the two vents were out of commission. The pool itself is tiny- hot tub fine. Rooms are a good size although coming here over the years wear and tear is starting to take a toll. Food and drink is expensive. Just wish there was some competition so the price would come down--my corporate discount keeps me coming back- rack rate scares me away !

Room Tip: Ask for a discount and join the Presidents Club for those extras.

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel on several occasions over the years, but always on a night before we are departing on an early morning flight. As a result, we normally arrive in a state of chaos, and then are up at 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning to get organized for our flight ... point being, it hasn't left us a lot of time to appreciate the amazing rooms and views from this hotel.
We celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary this past weekend, and as I had come across a great deal on rooms at this Fairmont a few months back, I decided to book us a room for the night of our anniversary, when we could relax and enjoy the experience. This may seem like an odd choice since the hotel is only half an hour from where we live, and is at an airport, but it was a decision well made.
From the moment I first contacted the hotel to let them know we were celebrating a special occasion, they went out of their way to make us feel special and to acknowledge our anniversary. The front desk service was phenomonal! The rooms, as always, were in perfect condition, and the bathrooms, with their spacious rain showers, big bath tub, etc., made me want to linger, and linger some more. The bed was beautifully comfortable, and we got such enjoyment out of sitting by the window and watching all the runway goings on, from the Nikon free standing telescope that was provided in this particular room.
Lastly, we had an absolutely fastastic dinner at the hotel's lovely restaurant, Globe - in a perfect setting, again with views of the airport operations below. For seafood lovers, I highly recommend the 'Fruits de Mar' (something close to that, anyways), in which the scallops and prawns were cooked to absolute perfection ... and we have eaten A LOT of seafood over the years! Also, the fresh bread offered at the beginning of the evening, as well as the mussel appetizer, and finally the S'Mores dessert, were all top notch!! Can't say enough great things about this hotel. Well done, Fairmont, and thank you for the great evening! Sarah

Room Tip: Honestly, there isn't a bad room at the hotel. I personally like the North facing rooms, as fee...

My family was looking forward to staying with YVR Fairmont for Christmas eve 2012. We have enjoyed the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver on numerous occasions, and expected that this would be a special experience. To be clear, this was a 'splurge' for my family, as it was the highest price we had ever paid for a hotel room. For $300/ night, one's expectations are raised.
What we experienced was a nice hotel, but certainly not four star. Upon checking in, the first hours were spent discovering and trying to rectify all the things that Fairmont had failed to take care of; no crib in room, only one bathrobe when reservation was for a family, dead cordless phone, and the most disconcerting was a hotel room door that closed but did not latch (discovered only because I ran back to the room from the elevator for a nursing blanket). Of course the staff (which is always the Fairmont's strength) rectified these issues, but why was I doing their job at this price point? I tolerate this at $150 dollar Ramada or other chain, but at this price point I was not impressed.
Now the most disappointing part of the stay was definitely the dinner. Again, when you feel warranted in charging $70 per person for a buffet, I expect a high-quality experience. Since there was no room at the 6:00 seating, my family had to eat at 8:00 pm (or airport food court for Christmas eve). At this price point I don't expect to have to go through the buffet rubber-necking for fresh and replenished items. Nicoise salad without tuna, cold shellfish platter that was all shells and no fish, and an 'Asian delicacies' section that had been sitting under heat lamps since the original seating (are gyoza supposed to be crunchy?). Oh, and don't bill yourself as west-coast cuisine when your seafood entree consists of fish, shrimp and scallops swimming in hollandaise. Any foodie worthy their Yelp membership knows that a buffet must be stocked modestly, and replenished regularly if all guests are to receive the same experience. Definitely the worst $200 meal ever.
My impression of the yVR Fairmont is that they have grown complacent through lack of competition and an isolated location. If you have more money than you know what to do with, then enjoy, as the staff is very personable, and my kids were showered with dollar-store trinkets at every turn. But if you are a middle-class family planning a special experience then better value can be had with a $10 cab ride.

The Fairmont Hotel at the Vancouver airport is one of the nicest hotels that we have ever stayed at. The room we stayed in was huge with a king size bed, desk, comfortable chair, and the largest bathroom in any hotel room that we have had the pleasure to stay. We had a room on the eleventh floor with a great view overlooking the international concourse. The bathroom had double sinks with granite counter top, large tub and a 4X6 foot walk in shower with large glass door. The toilet was in a separated room off the large walk-thru bathroom. We stayed for two nights and then caught our plane home without having to go outside the hotel as it is connected directly with the airport.

If you have an early flight out and get into town late, this is the place to stay. Its the only hotel that's actually part of the airport. No outdoors, no shuttle required. Very convenient to say the least. Higher price for that feature. But, also because it's a really nice hotel, Very nice, quiet rooms. Nice TV's and electronics. Pretty advanced system of controlling everything in the room from one central control box. Almost too advanced for my liking. Really nice bathroom including walk-in shower. Room size overall quite nice. I only stayed in the base room as well.

Room Tip: If you're flying out from the South Terminal, this is not the place the stay. The south terminal...

This is BY FAR our favourite airport hotel & for so many reasons: luxurious bedding (good sleep is #1), location -inside the airport, well appointed room - open, soundproof, & spacious, wonderful bathtub (& separate shower) & bathroom amenities, the "airplane-shaped" cookies are always welcome, too! Staff are super helpful, friendly & professional & there's an excellent gym & spa...nothing lacking here.

Room Tip: We prefer the floor to ceiling view of the runways & snow capped mountains...
