Run by a great team. We had the tapas one day and then returned a few days later for more great fayre. Food was absolutely brilliant - compliments to the chef.

Just want to say how much I enjoyed the excellent Vietnamese curry (similar to a Thai curry) and the sticky toffee pudding I shared. My husband and son enjoyed their belly pork and lamb too. We arrived early and received great service. We plan to visit again.

Having found the pub in the Cumbrian tourist information booklets we thought we would try the pub out.
With a late booking of 8pm, we were glad to be able to get a table, however, upon arrival and not many people in we were dubious. How wrong were we!

Lovely welcoming staff behind the bar and a good selection of meals on offer.

All meals were delicious and we even found room for the fabulous puddings on offer! A fussy family were very impressed!

Will certainly be returning!

Just stopped in for a quick bite for lunch during out travels. Friendly, fast service. Great options, a simple sausage sandwich was well presented and came with a side of chutney and a salad. Free wifi always handy when travelling overseas.

We stayed a couple of nights at Askham Hall and made a few visits to the Punchbowl Inn, including dinner there one night. Askham is a very picturesque little village, tucked away in the Northern Lakes area.

The beers are excellent, local real ales kept well. The exterior was photogenic and the interior was a comfortable country pub, with as someone else has mentioned, not a big-chain corporate logo in sight. The menu was varied and the staff extremely friendly and polite. Someone posted a negative comment further down with the comment "is this the same place that others have reviewed?" Well, I certainly don't recognise the place of his comments.

Food was great (I tried the trio of pigeon) and while it got busy as a couple of larger groups came in so we had to wait a little, we were informed and happy to sit there.

My only (slight) down is personal that as we are not great dog-lovers other guests having two bouncy large dogs in the bar area while we were eating was a bit off-putting. Maybe groups with dogs could be kept to a separate room? However, it didn't spoil the meal (and we went back the following day for a few drinks), and I do know that the Lakes are an area popular with dog-lovers, so what to us was a slight down becomes a positive for many others.

If we are in the area again (and I think we will be) then the Punchbowl will certainly be on our itinerary.
