What a great find; ate here for the first time last night and I really hope it won't be the last.
Excellent food, well prepared and served. Staff very friendly and helpful and it was all very well priced.
Really compares well with all the competition in the villages nearby.

The punch bowl is great value for money and it's a lovely old building with a great traditional village pub feel.

If you're anywhere close to Askham, give it a try; you won't be disappointed,

We were looking for somewhere different for a change as we always use lowther arms at Hackthorpe or the agricultural in town.so as newly reopened we thought we would try the punchbowl. I ordered steak only to be told there wasn't any left, it is halfway through a bank holiday but hard to believe so decided on roast beef as a substitute and the beef was very nice but that was as good as it got...pretty sure the veg(peas, carrots and sugar snap peas) were the frozen bags you buy as portions were limited, the roast potato was edible but that's as good as it went, yorkie pud was burnt and my husband's 'roast' belly pork was a soggy 4inch square piece of fat. We ate the meal as we were hungry it filled a hole and nothing more. When asked if all was ok I mentioned we weren't happy with the pork the waiter did offer to change it but my husband just wanted to finish up and go. When we paid our bill we were given a discount. ....£1.10.... my diet coke was £1.60!!! The roast was £10.95 most places round here average £7-9 so overpriced and lacking quality I would say. Back to Hackthorpe and the aggi for us.

Visited this hostelry since the 80's and seen many landlords come and go. It's back to its glory days with a long enough menu, but not too long, giving a reasonable choice of dishes to cover most tastes. Just had lamb rump steak cooked medium rare as matured 21 days - should have gone rare as normal. Excellent food and presentation - chef had taken lamb shoulder off as meat supplied not up to his standard. Hand pulled beer well maintained and changes regularly. Thoroughly recommend a visit for refreshments if in the area - better still organise a walk up the Lowther valley starting from the pub car park.

First of all if anyone is staying in or around the Askham area then a visit to here is a must. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had, the people were extra warm and friendly, the food was amazing (the home cut chips are a MUST!!!) and the sauce was divine. I can't wait to visit again!!!

Five of us ate here for dinner. We looked over the menu and it was one of those occasions when everything bar none looked great! Hard choice!

Everyone loved their meals, but good portions meant only two of us could manage desert. Sticky toffee pudding - excellent.

The service was very friendly - good balance between attentive and not hassling. Lots of positives, no negatives, look forward to eating here again when we visit.

Thanks for a great evening.
