Friendly welcoming staff - dogs welcome. Relaxed good pub food. Free wi fi & roaring fire. Decor a bit old worldly.

Stayed in Helton for a family wedding recently - we had 3 meals at this lovely little pub in Askham where family live - great food everytime we went, can really reccommend it. and the NEW menu sounds very interesting pity they are soooooo far away.

We stayed for 2 nights to enjoy the lakes, situated in Askham it is in a good location. A must visit is the bird of prey centre which is just up the road and does daily shows at 2pm, get there early have a look at the birds and enjoy a brew on the tea room......and maybe some cake!

Anyway, rooms were of a good size but were quite dated and a bit on the cold side. But for a place to stay for a couple of nights on a walking break it did what it said on the tin. Rooms with good food......and the food is very very good and hearty. Good selection of hand pulled beers also. Breakfast was fantastic

Stopped for Lunch at this pretty pub whilst in the picturesque village of Askham, The Pub was very welcoming with very friendly and polite staff. The food was of good quality with an extensive but not excessive choice for a lunchtime. Prices were standard Lake District pub prices with most dishes between £9 and £11. Nice chunky skin on chips were a give away to the fresh home cooked quality of the food.
Only let down was from a beer perspective as all 3 beers on tap were bland and boring. Get rid of the Wainwright and Cumberland Ale and get in some local microbrewery beer such as Tirril or Hesket Newmarket.

Very disappointed after visiting, due to a recommendation, basic pub food, at inflated prices. Ordered steak and ale pie with mash and veg, cost £9.95 was charged £2.00 extra for small gravy boat. Will not be visiting again.
