We stayed in a cottage nearby so ate an evening meal her twice. We were allowed to sit in the bar with our dogs. Ther was a good choice of menu, the prices were reasonable and the food was the best we had tasted of any pub in the area.

We were staying near Pooley Bridge and were casually recommended to this restaurant and were surprised to find how good it was. We were warmly welcomed by the knowledgeable staff and seated in a quiet corner of the pub. The menu was not large but there was a very good choice of dishes and a good vegetarian option. My wife had the onion and brie tart which was delicious whilst the rest of our party went for the fish. Hake for my friends and bouillabaisse for me. Thoroughly enjoyed by all with a good choice of wine by the bottle or glass. Thoroughly recommended.

Second visit to the Queen's Head as the first visit was succesful. Once again we weren't disappointed. In my opinion pub food comes in three categories. Basic, where you eat because you have to! Decent, where you want a good meal without paying too much for what you get, and the higher, wannabe gastro-pub which usually falls short except in the cost of the meal!

I reckon this is at the higher end of the middle category. It's decent food, (the pies especially), and the price is very reasonable. For me the choice of ales is an improtant factor, and the Queen's Head came up trumps with three different cask ales.

The only negative point is that although there is a nice real fire at one end of the pub, if all the tables are taken, the far end of the bar/dining area was slighlty on the chilly side to be comfortable.

Our second visit here and would definately return. A warm welcome, good food, pleasant restaurant area and a good choice of beers. Clildrens menu also good and older children are able to' trade-up' to a larger portion. Very enjoyable and good value yet again.

We stayed a few hundred yards from the pub and were able to get the last free table in the bar on a busy Friday night following a quick phone call by our hosts. We had read reviews of the meat pies and found it hard to choose from the wide and interesting choice eventually settling on a steak and ale pie and also a steak & kidney - both were delicious as were the accompanying chips and veg. The service was first rate and attentive, it was so good that the next day we decided to return that evening to try the restaurant. Due to a large booking we were restricted to either 6:30 or 8:30 which some might find to be unacceptable BUT it was worth it. We decided to try the Specials and both opted for fillet steaks - both cooked to perfection. For dessert we opted for the rhubarb pie and the sticky toffee pudding - this is one of my favourite puddings and this was possibly the best I have ever been served. It was no surprise that the person responsible for the pies also makes this pudding and is the daughter of the owner. Service during the meal was excellent and I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough.
