“Great Apartments, Friendly Staff Highly recommended”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

We stayed at the Vossestrand Appartments for 5 nights in the middle of August. We arrived very late at night due to the Gudvangen Tunnel being shut and not knowing this before time (Grrr) and a 4 hour detour later we arrived at 1am. The staff were very understanding and made sure we were comfortable before leaving us to rest. Both my wife and I were relieved when we saw the quality of the appartment and even wondered if there might be amistake knowing how little we were paying!

The next morning we awoke to find ourselves in very quite and serene surroundings. The hotel sits at approx. 550m above sea level and the view down the valley is wonderful. Voss is approx. 25 minutes away and to be fair, once I had seen it once, I had no strong desire to see it again. The Klatrapark (Norways answer to Go Ape) is 15 minutes dribe, Voss Rafting Center 25 minutes drive, Gudvangen (for the Norway in a nutshell fjord cruise to Flam) is about 30 minutes, but you do need to have your own car. Just be careful though, getting around Norway by road is a slow business and if you break the very low speed limit, prepare for a hefty fine when you get home. We drove to Bergen (2 hours) 80kmph most of the way I unfortunately crept up to 88kmph at one point and found a ticket in the doorstep when I returned home. £175!!!

Norway is a devastatingly beautiful country and you could not stop at a nicer place to enjoy this particular part of it. We paid about £325 for 5 nights for 4 of us, we would struggle to find a Travelodge for that money in the UK, so it was exceptional value for money.

Room Tip: We had an apartment at the back of the hotel, view isn't great (looking up the hillside) but it...

Very nice newly renovated apartments with fully equipped kitchen and a lot of beds. Our apartment had room for 6 people and a sofa. Staff is friendly and the hotel has very nice views down the valley.

You need to have your own car to get here and it is a bit out of the way from main attractions if you are here in summer. Noise from road and neighbours in hotel can be a bit disturbing if you are sensitive.

Room Tip: 3rd floor is definitely best since rooms are not soundproofed.

We stayed at the Vossestrand Hotel for four nights early in June. We were made extremely welcome by staff and felt very much at home. The apartment was really well designed - modern and quirky - and the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to be completely self-catering. The atmosphere of the hotel is extremely friendly and relaxing. We had a car (and this is probably necessary) but the location of hotel is excellent. It is handy for Voss, Vik and some beautiful walks on the Pass. We definitely intend to stay here again in the future and would recommend it highly.

The Vossestrand apartement hotel is located about 30 minutes drive from Voss city centre. It is easy to find, to the left of the main road. For the cheapest stay, you have to bring your own bedding and food and you also have to clean out the rooms before check out. It is also possible to rent bedding and order breakfast and room service.

The rooms themselves are nice and spacy, the one we stayed in was acutally separated in three "rooms"! In addition to the main room, there was a small bedroom on the main floor with a king size bed, but also a bed loft with four mattresses. In the main room there was a dining table, a TV and a large sofa and a nice bathroom. The kitchen was well equipped with everything from a coffee maker to a dishwasher, and the bathroom contained cleaning supplies and even a hairdryer! It is not a five star hotel, but compared to the low price it was absolutely excellent!

In the common area downstairs there are sitting groups, a big TV, a bar, pool table and gaming room. Everything you need to keep yourself occupied during the evenings.

We paid 590 NOK for a one night stay for four people, and I'm pretty sure this is one of the cheapest places to stay in this nice and tourist crowded part of Norway.

Stayed in their property for 1 night in Sep 2012. I chose them as its around 30-40% cheaper vs similar accomodation in Flam. I didn't expect much but boy, it was a superb place to stay! Best out of my 2 weeks trip across Europe. Very value for money if you have your car. Imagine, the price we paid for this room is equivalent to a dorm in Oslo. The pictures in their website really do look like that in real life. Paid 545 NOK for 1 night via booking.com.

Pro:
- From outside the hotel looks old but inside it’s very modern & spacious. Even have attic you can sleep in. Even have a living room with big sofa. Wooden flooring. Design looks like pulled out of décor magazine.
- Have fully equipped kitchen with electric stove, oven, complete cooking & dining utensils. Also have fridge, dishwasher & proper dining table. They even have boiled egg holders… (seriously).
- Cable TV (relatively complete channels, lots of English options)
- Stable WiFi
- Free parking

Cons:
- No privacy for the bedrooms (both rooms are without doors – literally) and the ceiling in the bedrooms are a bit awkward both were under the slanted roof – might a problem if you’re claustrophobic. Bedding was just okay, not the best.
- No washing machine (I don’t understand why they have so many items – even vacuum cleaner & dishwasher but not washing machine)
- Linens not included (you need to either bring yourself or borrow for a fee)
- Need to clean up after yourself otherwise you’ll get a fine
- Location is quite far (30 mins drive to Voss), hence you need to bring a car

I know it’s a long pro & cons list – but nevertheless I was very impressed with this property given the value for money. Very recommended if you bring a car.

LOCATION – Easy to find. It’s isolated but right on the main road through the area, nearest amenities are at nearby Vinje.

APARTMENT – Spotlessly clean, with stylish décor with some nice touches such as candles, vases, paintings etc. Extremely well equipped kitchen, Microwave, Full Cooker, lots of utensils, fridge (no freezer compartment). Cable TV (but only seemed to have three channels) and free Wi-Fi. Very peaceful surroundings for a good night’s sleep.

FACILITIES – Bar with pool table, large cable TV

VALUE FOR MONEY – Yes

SERVICE – Extremely Good. The hotel was quiet as it was at the start of the summer season. My partner wanted to watch an international football match and the front desk/barman was happy to put on main screen in the bar as it was not available on TV in room. They were very friendly and accommodating.

At 590 NOK for four adults, we expected a woredown room with limited space. The room proved to be bigger and far better than we even hoped for. It was quiet, despite being next to the stairs. Unusual, but neat, combination of one double bed with a single bed on top (and another separate single bed). Spacious enough for four adults with luggage.

I didn't think it was possible to get this good a room for this price in Norway, but was proven wrong last night. Of course, we brought our own linen and cleaned the room before leaving.
