Nestled along the slopes or the Abruzzi range of the Apennines and within an hour and a half drive from Rome, this area is a popular retreat for city dwellers who want to escape for a weekend of relaxation and outdoor activities. My partner and I were arranging a trip to the Comino Valley for a family wedding and discovered the Relais via a web search. We decided to reserve a room since the wedding was in a neighboring village and there was nothing seeming comparable in the area. We arrived with high hopes and low expectations. How wrong we were! Manuela and Carlo have created an understated but elegant property to which we will certainly return. The rooms are simple, welcoming, immaculate and comfortable. The food was incredibly delicious, served by a friendly attentive waiter, and prepared by an accommodating and talented chef. The infinity pool was inviting and we enjoyed it frequently during our stay. Montecassino is a 25-minute drive and the Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo is nearby. The Relais should be on everyone's itinerary - a wonderful stop to unwind and enjoy during a typical whirlwind Italian tour.

Perfection is alive and well at the Relais de Chalon d’Orange in the little town of Alvito outside of Rome. Manuela and Carlo have created one of the world’s beautiful spaces. The location with the views of the mountains and the tranquility of the land cultivated all combine, for us, to make a perfect retreat. Their impeccable taste in the architecture and furnishings is without equal. The homegrown crops so beautifully tended into sumptuous gourmet dishes by Chef Roberto and served so professionally by Gianluca, are designed for utlimate pleasure. This is one of the places where Cooking Vacations arranges for their unusual cooking classes. Here, the classes are ably taught by the Master Chef Roberto Franchi, who has worked in such places as the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan, the Hotel Artz 5 Stelle in Barcelona and in several Michelin starred restaurants in Italy. Chef Roberto has a real gift for imparting information and teaching techniques. The aim of this dining crew is to take advantage of fresh-from-the-garden seasonal vegetables and fruits, highlighting pure organic herbs and seasonings. We accompanied Chef Roberto to the garden, which he tends on the property, and picked everything needed to make our beautiful, delicious culinary creations.

This Relais has so many wonderful spaces for guests to enjoy—the beautiful infinity pool immediately relaxes, the hammocks on the lawn invite, the big round double chairs designed for lounging beckon. Every space has its own character. The breakfast table, filled with beautiful homemade breads and cakes served with homemade jellies and jams from their gardens, were a looked-forward-to treat.

Our room was charming—with its bleached wood, luxurious silk drapes, lavender walls—and its dragonfly theme extended to the sconces and even the water glass in the ultra-modern bathroom. This room also had an additional twin-bedded loft. And we must mention the wonderful shower with the sunflower head.

We so enjoyed our walks among the fruit trees and garden and especially our trip to Alvito, that classic Italian town with stone steps and mysterious alleyways leading to more stone steps and more mysterious alleyways. It was fun being lost there and finding our way again to the charming main street.

Best of all we enjoyed the true hospitality shown by Manuela and Carlo and their entire staff. It was a great pleasure to spend our Roman vacation in such lovely surroundings. We will return and we recommend this very special place to anyone who desires a truly unusual Italian vacation in a tranquil setting. Eve Potts and Marion Morra

My wife and I had a wonderful stay in this Inn..Manuela and Carlo could not have been more helpful, all their recommendations were spot on, places to visit and restaurants to go to. As it was out of season the restauarant is only open 3 nights a week but they opened it specialy for a couple who had come for the cooking class, we had an exellent dinner and good local wines to acompany it.
My only disappointment was the breakfast..it was uninteresting...I wrote to Manuela suggesting making granola, having some yogurts and more fruit, I thought constructive and helpful suggestion. I was disappointed to not receive a reply.
This is a minor quibble and I would definitely highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: rooms on first floor are slightly smaller but great views...room downstairs is bigger but you open u...

The Relais is not at all what you would expect to find in this area: I live in London but have visited this area of Italy for many years and to say that there are not many places like this around is an understatement. The setting is absolutely beautiful, on a hill in a valley surrounded by olive trees and such like. The rooms are very nice, the pool and dining area outside are stunning - particularly at night. On top of the beautiful setting you have an level amazing food which you just do not find in this area of Italy: Pretty much all the food is grown right there organically and the menu is way more refined and interesting than the typical rustic food you would expect in this area of Italy. In fact, the food was truely amazing and a real highlight. On top of this the owners Manuela and Carlo are very lovely and welcoming people and are really putting a lot of effort into making this place something different for this area which I am sure cannot be easy.. I have already recommended this place to everyone I know. Absolut gem of a place!

I agree completely with the rest of the reviews, if you look for peace and calm surrounded by authentic nature, this is your hotel. Situated on the top of a hill, facing the old village of Alvito, it is just a little paradise.

Just one hour and a half from Rome, but away from the crowded touristic places of Italy, this hotel is like a little untouched paradise, the service, meals and installation are exquisite. Don’t miss at least one of the meals in the hotel restaurant, 100% recommended.

A part from enjoying the wonderful views and peace inside the hotel, you can drive 45 - 60 minutes from the hotel and you will enjoy natural parks, nature, history, old villages, caves. Just take the car, and drive, because there are many treasure to be discovered in some zone of Italy that still haven’t been exploited by the tourism, and keeps something very original and authentic from Italy ancient culture.

Me and my couple stayed 4 days this summer, and we were very happy, we were vegetarian and they prepared delicious meals for us with the natural ingredients from their own. The most of the time we were visiting places around, doing nature sport, the offer is really wide.

We are thinking to come back in winter, it much be even more wonderful.

Words really can't describe the perfection at Relais Chalons d'Orange. It is out of this world - the host Manuela has a real passion for making Relais the best and it shows. The infinity pool is idyllic, the views/setting are incredible, huge orchard to pick your own fruit, food at breakfast is freshly made and home made jams are yummy (Even bought several to bring back to Scotland) and dinner was another wonderful experience. We stayed on a date when a Michelin star chef from Tuscany created a wonderful tasting menu, the food was beautiful and value for money was excellent. We will most definately return and wish Relais Chalons d'Orange a prosperous future as they deserve it. Thank you very much for everything.

We stayed at Relais Chalons D'ORANGE for two nights this August. The setting is beautiful with views of the hills and mountains. The relais has been done with great taste, and opened three years ago. The rooms and the ambience are very relaxing. We appreciated swimming in the outdoor pool with stunning views. We greatly enjoyed having dinner with local wines on the terrace both evenings. The owners are rightly very proud of the relais and are committed to providing a good service. We greatly enjoyed the home grown organic apples and tomatoes they gave us when we left. We would definitely return!
