“Lovely Weekend in beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed October 9, 2017 for a stay in October 2017

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at The Old Farrowings. The cottage was beautiful and equipped perfectly for our needs. It was such a cosy and quaint little cottage. The bedroom is enormous! We didn't need to make use of the the log fire as the heating kept us warm enough. I imagine on a winters evening however, the log fire would have been amazing. The scenery was stunning! Beautiful views as far as the eye could see. And our little sheepy neighbours were very friendly too.

The weather was a tad damp on our 2nd day but we didn't let that stop us from paying a visit into the neighbouring village of Hartington where we took the opportunity to visit the Cheese Shop and purchase some of the local cheeses. We also warmed ourselves up with a delicious Hot Chocolate from one of the tea rooms.

Our host, Jane was excellent. She popped by to say hello and welcome us on our arrival. Nothing was too much trouble. The homemade chocolate brownies were delicious.

We cannot wait to visit here again in the future! We had a lovely relaxing weekend. Thank-you

“Beautiful, away from it all break”
Reviewed August 2, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

We stayed at The Old Farrowings for 2 nights in June 2017. The cottage is wonderful and very well equipped. I loved the log fire in the lounge and the huge bedroom! The cottage is in a wonderful, peaceful location surrounded by hills. Jane was an excellent, friendly host from initially booking right through to and during our stay. The welcome brownies were delicious and a great touch.

I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it without hesitation.

Really pleased you enjoyed your stay at The Old Farrowings and thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am glad you liked the chocolate brownies - my daughter's recipe and she is selling them in Ashbourne at the moment trying to raise some pocket money to fund the music festivals that are dominating the holidays! Hope to see you again in the future.

“Wedding stay”
Reviewed July 10, 2017 for a stay in July 2017

We stayed at The Old Farrowing for our wedding weekend, and it was absolutely perfect. From booking, all the way through to check out, the owner Jane could not do enough for us. The cottage was exquisite in such peaceful and beautiful surroundings, and the whole place is so well kept.

Our bridal party stayed in the other two cottages and were really impressed.

We would have no reservations in recommending any of the Biggin Grange cottages.

Jane is a fantastic host!

Thank you so much for the great review and it was lovely to be part of your special weekend. You were all delightful to have to stay in the 3 cottages and I am so pleased, after all your planning, that the wedding was such a success. Have an amazing holiday in Bali and Lombok and hope to see you both again in the future. Jane

“Perfect peace and quiet.”

We stayed in the 'Old Farrowings' in the first week in June. The cottage was very comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. All the Cottages only sleep two, which makes for a peaceful holiday. The views from the patio overlooked Biggindale and the hills beyond, unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse but we just lit the wood burning stove and opened a bottle of wine.
There were several walks that we did from the cottage, no need for the car, which took in the lovely countryside of Derbyshire.

The place was so quiet and peaceful, it really makes you unwind.

Our hosts, Jane and Richard were very friendly and helpful, giving us lots of ideas of places to eat. In the end, when we did eat out, we ate at the Waterloo Inn in Biggin.
The food is delicious.

All in all I would recommend Biggin Grange to anyone, we will certainly return, that in itself is a recommendation.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review. Thrilled you enjoyed your week staying in The Old Farrowings and despite the sunshine to rain you managed to get out lots and explore the area.
Please do come back again - whatever the month there is certainly lots to do in the area. Jane

“Everything we hoped and more!”
Reviewed June 2, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

We stayed at the Old Farrowings for two days in the middle of a 10-day UK vacation. We had no car - we took the train to Buxton and got taxi rides to and from the cottage. It really is out there in the country and the setting was even better than we imagined. Both days we drank wine on our private patio while looking at the gorgeous countryside and listening to/watching the cows and sheep. Both days we took a 40 minute walk to nearby Hartington for lunch and ice cream. We played tennis on the Biggin Grange court, went to quiz night at the Waterloo Inn and just enjoyed the total peace and freedom of being there. We were so sad to leave and very much hope to go back one day!

Jane was not there at all during our visit but I texted her a couple of questions and she always replied. We had brief chats with two others who worked there but other than that we had no need of contact as everything was pre-explained or waiting for us when we arrived. The brownies Jane left us were delicious and the cottage was so wonderful in every way!
