Panorama Heights Bed and Breakfast
Reviewed November 14, 2010

Stayed here for a few nights between Christmas & New Year on my way out of New Zealand - lovely base from which to explore the Waitakere Ranges and indeed to drive up to the sights of the Northland. Allison & Paul, the owners, extremely kind and friendly. Faultless.

In early February, 2010, we had the pleasure of beginning our month-long NZ trip at Panorama Heights. We stayed at 9 B&Bs on the North and South Islands and this one is in a tie for the best of all.
As we stepped out from our car, we were just gobsmacked by the sultry scents of flowers and luscious plant life. Paul and Alison are fantastic hosts and welcomed us warmly even though we arrived before 8am from our flight from LA. We enjoyed a breakfast of fantastic ham and cheese muffins and wonderful fruit. Alison is an incredible cook and baker and is very talented at arranging flowers for everyone's enjoyment. Breakfasts were excellent and Alison prepared a beautifully presented meal each morning and also was pleased to prepare any other requests.
The B&B has a knockout view of the Waitakere Park and its very old and treasured Kauri trees. As Canadians, we couldn't believe that one could leave windows and doors wide open without an invasion of insects! This was Shangrila! The birdwatching is fascinating and Paul and Alison are very knowledgeable about wildlife. Paul took us on a very memorable bushwalk in the Waitakere Ranges Park and we saw numerous giant Kauris and a spectacular NZ Wood Pigeon! Paul and Alison prepared a superb NZ Snapper dinner for us as well. We stayed for 3 nights and had lots to do what with visiting Auckland and Devonport, golfing and seeing the gannet colony at Muriwai. Everything was superb and oh, so memorable. The B&B overlooks a wonderland of tropical forest. At 430am, we saw glow worms outside our windows in the trees and shrubbery. We will never forget our stay at Panorama Hts. and plan to return on our next trip. Only downside was no Internet service.

Allison and Paul really know how to run a B&B. From the moment we arrived we felt we were staying with friends and we wished that we could stay longer than the one night we had (our last night before flying home). The views over Auckland are superb and we would have liked the opportunity to visit the nearby beaches and go for bush walks. Allison cooked us a delicious dinner whilst chatting and giving flower-arranging tips and Paul was a most attentive host. We would definitely return if we ever went back to New Zealand.

This B&B offers the best of both worlds: it's on the edge of the rainforest, close to beautiful beaches, and yet less than 30 minutes from downtown Auckland. Allison & Paul are amazing hosts who make sure their guests have everything they could need during their stay. They gave us a wonderful welcome when we arrived, offered great travel advice, and served us really delicious breakfasts (eaten while enjoying the outstanding view from their deck). Couldn't ask for more!

This B&B is a wonderful place. Allison & Paul made us feel like welcomed family. They catered to our diet with scrumptious meals, and their suggestions for touring the Waitakere range, beaches and North Island were detailed and not always in tour books (but very worthwhile). The B&B is in a beautiful setting; we took walks outside our home-away-from-home; the lush forest is minutes away from the street; Paul's guided tour of the area is a must-do. Our first two night's stay in New Zealand was here, and it was a delightful, brilliant surprise; it set a high standard for the remainder of our two weeks in the country.

Paul and Allison could not have made our 4 nights stay with them more comfortable or enjoyable. Allison prepared a superb dinner for us on our first evening and amazing breakfasts each morning. Paul introduced us to the rainforest with a bush walk and on our last day generously took us Blokarting on the beach which was brilliant fun. They shared their knowledge of the area with suggestions on what to do for us to make the most of our short stay, whether it was in the City, beach or country side. We really enjoyed our two weeks in New Zealand but our stay at Panorama Heights turned out to be the highlight of our holiday.

Wow - what a welcome. Our flight was delayed, so we were late arriving - but what a welcome when we did arrive. We had tea and homemade goodies and immediately felt at home. Allison and Paul are a lovely couple and it soon felt as if we were old friends. We chatted for ages and got some recommendations on the key sights to see in Auckland. Breakfast the next day was absolutely delicious, and Allison went out of her way to make gluten free choices for my husband. Paul took us for a short (!) bush walk before we left on our second day - it was really interesting and helped to walk off the huge breakfast we had just eaten.
We had the whole house to ourselves, which was a bonus. It had everything we needed and was really comfortable. The views from the deck were absolutely spectacular. Wish we could have stayed longer.
