“Family hoilday”

Our elder son got married recently and this was the accommodation he found for us. It acccommodated three couples: My wife and I; our second son, his wife and three year old daughter as well as our daughter, her husband and their 3 month old child. The house was always full, as our son that got married, his partner and their 5 year old daughter were constantly with us.
The kitchen was adequate for our large family, as was the dining room. We spent most of the time in the large lounge, with a deck overlooking the forest. We we constantly supplied wth good food by our hosts. They were there when we need them but mainly left us alone. The only negative part of our stay there was that the downstairs area where our sone and his family stayed, was cold.

Room Tip: If you share, don't choose the downstairs room

Recently we had the pleasure of staying at Panorama Heights whilst on a quick visit to Auckland from Brisbane.
The accommodation is first class with magnificent views overlooking surrounding National Park and across to Auckland City and the harbour. The lounge area with its comfy sofas and lovely log fire was the perfect place to relax and soak up these wonderful views. Paul and Allison were great hosts, very warm and welcoming. Nothing was too much for them. They were happy to sit and chat about the local area - birdlife, places of interest and activities. We felt very much at home. The accommodation is self contained with the hosts living next door . This allowed us as guests, our privacy and freedom to come and go as we wished.
Allison is a superb cook and besides the lovely breakfast she provided , tea, coffee, cookies, and a large bowl of fruit were at hand for our use.
We thoroughly recommend Panaroma Heights to anyone who is looking for quality accommodation in an “out of the box” setting , with great hosts who are very happy to go that extra mile to ensure your stay is first class.

I can only echo the many positive things that have already been said about Allison and Paul's hospitality, the substantial and delicious breakfasts and, especially, their expert advice on what to see in the area and how to get there. I stayed there for two nights before flying back to the UK (it is less than an hour's drive from the airport) and it was an excellent choice, providing a perfect balance between the privacy of an apartment and the welcome of a B&B. I can strongly recommend it.

Let me just say Allison and Paul are amazing hosts. The minute I met them, it felt like I was reacquainting myself with dear friends I'd lost contact with. I immediately felt at home with them and thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Panorama Heights. The sitting room was so warm and inviting. I was deliriously happy to spend my evenings reading and journaling in front of the fireplace. My room was so quaint and cozy; I almost hated leaving it every morning. And I can't say enough about the kitchen/dining room and the spectacular views from the back deck. Each morning as I sat eating my breakfast (you have to try the Greek yogurt with Manuka honey) I would chat with Paul and Allison while taking in the views surrounding the B&B. Stunning!

Panorama Heights may be 45 minutes outside of the city, but it is easy to take the train from Swanson Station to Britomart Station in the heart of Auckland. In fact, you can jog (10-15 minutes) or walk (20-25 minutes) to the station from the B&B. Don't worry if you are directionally challenged. Allison and Paul are more than willing to help you get all the information you need for making your travel plans.

I would recommend this place for those who are a little adventurous and really want to have the Kiwi experience. Paul and Allison are simply the best!

Room Tip: Just ask and I'm sure you'll love any room you reserve!

This is a great place to stay; easy to get to Auckland and close to the wonderful west coast beaches. Food scrumptious and plentiful, accommodation spaces excellent, and that view ...
Allison and Paul were very welcoming, helpful and non-intrusive hosts. I loved the fact that they had pre-printed detailed instructions about how to get to all the local attractions.
Allison and Paul, we'll be back (and so will our friends and family).

We stayed at Panorama Heights for 9 nights during the Rugby World Cup. It really is the best of both worlds in that you can get to the city in 45 minutes and also drive only 20 minutes to beautiful and rugged beaches. Allison and Paul do their utmost to provide a genuine home from home for their guests and it is easy to relax completely here; from the stunning view of Auckland from the deck, to the lounge room with wood stove and the comfortable spotless bedrooms and bathrooms. The hosts will provide a delicious evening meal, which is very welcome after a day of sightseeing and Allison's breakfasts are varied and truly delightful. Most of all, their helpfulness and attention to detail are outstanding. We recommend this B&B wholeheartedly.

The view out the window from the living room (and from the dining area and off the deck) is a "jaw dropper." As one of the proprietors pointed out, a view which has the intense greenery of a New Zealand forest in the foreground and the skyline of the City of Auckland in the background is one which never ceases to entertain and impress. On the nights of the World Cup Rugby matches, one could clearly see the lights of the stadium where the matches were being played, as well as the brightly lit Auckland Sky Tower landmark. During the day, the large 600-year old island to the east of Auckland harbor in the Pacific Ocean was clearly visible toward the horizon. The most incredible fact is that the Panorama B&B is only 45 minutes from the international airport and most of the travel is along a genuine modern limited-access freeway similar to the Interstate highways in the USA. (The only trick is to remember to stay to the left when driving. And don't rent a stick shift if you are accustomed to driving on the "right" side of the road unless you are ambidexterous.) The B&B is located in a separate house from the adjacent one occupied by the proprietors. This means you have the maximum potential privacy. There is a full kitchen for your use and Allison is an expert baker who routinely makes delicious cookies from scratch and may also make you a quick personal-sized pizza if you arrive back exhausted from a long day of sightseeing. We also took her up on the idea of a sit-down dinner on our first night since we wanted to see how New Zealanders prepare a rack of lamb (the national dish) and because we knew it would take a day or two to adjust to the time zone upon our arrival from the USA. In a word, the meal was scrumptious. Allison and Paul shared dinner with us and the conversation was animated and engaging. In a previous life, Paul was a "panel banger" and you will have to guess what that means. But if talking about cars is one of your passions, he will amaze you with his depth of knowledge on the subject regardless of where you live. And if you love birds, he knows all about the native varieties which are only found in New Zealand. In fact, there is a true rain forest a few miles away in the state park and it is reminiscent of the one on the Olympic Peninsula to the west of Seattle. (Just be sure to bring your mud boots.) There is also a major Tasman Sea beach about 20 minutes away with a seashore as long as those in many California coastal locations. We're talking miles of wide sand and vigorous surf. The beds at the B&B are cozy and feature electric heat from underneath you rather than on top. It makes falling asleep extremely easy. The shower stall is spacious. The provided wool-lined slippers will keep your feet toasty. The full English breakfast includes generous portions and the bacon and cheese omelet is outstanding. You definitely won't leave hungry. During the day, you have your pick of fresh fruit and if you scrounge around in the fridge and the cupboard, you should be able to come up with the fixings for an improvised meal. If not, just eat more cookies. (There is also a jar of candy in the living room!) There is a television and stereo in the living room which also features a wood-burning fireplace. It is pre-loaded each day and all you have to do is light the match and you'll feel right at home. There is a wide selection of books if you forgot to bring your Kindle. Don't miss the stuffed animal collection and the beautifully handmade life-size Time Out doll facing the frosted glass window nearby. Since this is a rural location, you will need to drive about five minutes down the road to the local library to use one of the free local Internet computer terminals to check your email. There is no library card requirement. The staff is extremely helpful and they work on Saturday mornings too. If you need to use your own laptop, the library folks will provide a printed map with directions to the nearest free WiFi location which is only another five minutes away. We arrived early in the day on a flight from San Francisco and showed up at the front door near 10AM. We were warmly welcomed and provided with what basically amounted to the British version of afternoon tea with lots of pastries. Since our departure was going to be at 6PM a week later, we spent two nights at the Panorama upon arrival, then drove down to the capital of Wellington during the middle of the week, and returned to the Panorama for our final night. That allowed us to get plenty of rest followed by a 9AM breakfast and a 12 Noon departure for some shopping on the way to the airport. This same "bookends" booking idea had been suggested by another Trip Advisor reviewer. To let the B&B proprietors know you read this review, ask Paul to say the words "Bed and Breakfast" when you arrive and you will hear a perfect rendition of a true New Zealand accent. It's still ringing in my ears!
