If you are commuting or playing the Waitemata Harbour is one of Aucklands treasures (Not Wellington's as per the attached map!) One of the reasons Auckland is called the City of Sails. We viewed the departure of tis years Volvo Ocean Race from a grandstand position from the deck of a Fullers Ferry on the way to Waiheke Island - literally hundreds if not thousands of craft of every description. The Explorenz vessels will take you out to see whales, Orcas and dolphins and if on a particular day you see none - quite rare - they give you a free rain check to go again until you do. Even without the marine animals it is still a great and informative day out and a lot of the crew are there as part of their university studies in marine sciences.
