“Best pizza I've had in New Zealand”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

This is an absolutely fantastic little restaurant full of atmosphere and vibe. The waiters are so friendly you feel like you're in Italy and the food is amazing. I have never had such good pizza in the six years that I have lived in New Zealand, and the prices are extremely decent. If you haven't been, you're missing out!

“Probably the best Rustic Authentic Italian food in Auckland”
Reviewed January 17, 2013

First visited here a year ago due to a Grab one voucher for lunch. Was so impressed we made reservations for a birthday celebration later in the month and again 10/10 for experience.

Since then been back several times. Probably the reason for this being my first review is I want to keep it a secret so it doesnt get too popular and difficult to get a table. This is one of our favorite Italian restaurants.

Pane & Vino serve rustic authentic Italian food.

Rather than ordering the same thing I always get I asked the waiter for his recommendation, we were not disappointed and enjoyed it

Our latest visit was with my partners brother who was visiting from Germany, well actually he lives right on the boarder of Italy and frequents restaurants there. He was also dead impressed with the quality and authenticity of the food.

Pretty good value for money.

There wine list is not the most extensive but they do offer BYO with a reasonable corkage charge of $5 and when you consider its right next door to Glengarry’s it probably has the most extensive wine list in NZ.

“Many better Italian restaurants around”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

We had heard good reports of Pane e Vino, so were looking forward to authentic Italian food and atmosphere. We are able to book - always a bonus - but finding a park on a Thursday evening was a mission. The cafe has two areas with tables - inside the old villa, or outside in a plastic "tent". Between the two is the villa's front door, which constantly slams with customers or wait staff travelling between the rooms. The cafe was busy and almost full, which means the noise level was high. We brought our own wine, and tumblers were brought by the waiter. When I asked for wine glasses, I was told the tumblers were for our wine or water. A tumbler may be fine for red wine, but certainly not for white, and definitely not for the good wines our group of six had brought. The menu is extensive, with all the Italian favourites, but the dishes our table of six ordered where not as flavoursome as they could be, and the lasagne was very small for a male. One diner had a tiramisu dessert which was pronounced delicious. It was interesting to sample this restaurant we'd heard so much about, but we felt it was over-rated.

“A wonderful experience in many ways”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

Went back to Pane & Vino for about the fifth time, each time we have been to Auckland over the last two years.
It never fails to disappoint, fantastic food, fun atmosphere and staff that go out of their way to make sure everyone enjoys the evening.
If you like Italian food and enjoy a good fun night out, do not miss going to Pane & Vino.
Prices are very reasonable, byo wine.
Memorable. Book a table inside to get the atmosphere.

“I really don't want to review this restaurant”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

Because right now, if you are lucky you can still get a table at this fantastic restaurant. I expect soon, that unless Tito opens another restaurant, you'll soon need to book well ahead. You do now if you have a group of more than 4!

Tito used to run Gina's and WAS Gina's restaurant for the regulars. He has owned his own restaurant for a while now and the food is quite different. The best description I can think of is rustic Italian - we've only ever eaten this kind of Italian food in Italy and at the home of our Italian friends.

Try and get a table inside, unless you are warm blooded or warmly dressed. They have a little room out back which is quieter so if booking ahead, try this if you want something a bit more secluded.

Don't expect your kiwi style Italian (Marsala livers etc). Do expect fantastic pizza and pasta, great 'Secondi's, to die for Tiramisu and great, attentive service from Tito and team.

We have been here dozens of times (we live across town!) and to date I haven't written a review but only for our own selfish reasons.

Enjoy.

PS Reading the above, I absolutely haven't been paid to write this! I just think great food, great service and a relaxed atmosphere deserves great custom too.
