I caught a bus from the CBD which virtually took me to the gate of MOTAT. It is split into two large sites MOTAT 1 and MOTAT2 and you catch an old tram to get from one to the other. MOTAT1 is a collection of large warehouses/sheds with various motor related exhibits (eg cars, trams, steam pumps). Shed 1 was my favourite which contained interesting history of technology. MOTAT 2 is a massive aircraft hanger with some pretty awesome planes if that ticks your boxes. Some of the exhibits were closed the day I visited but none-the-less it was a great day especially if you have children as there are lots of interactive displays. 20% discount with AA which I used.

Visit MOTAT, a great day out for both the young and old. View lots of transport and technology options. At one end you have a huge hanger of planes and we were lucky to see the workshop in full swing doing restorations for future exhibits. Connected by a tram with a real life ticket snapper which was awesome. We then reached the other end where there were trams, printing presses, technology and lots of interactive exhibits. Definitely a great day and you could be lost there for the whole day. There is also free parking and buses that drop you off right near the entry.
