“Good food, nice views of the marina”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

We ate twice at Billfish cafe during our visit to Auckland. The terrace gives directly onto the marina and there is a good view of Auckland harbour bridge as well. Both meals were very good (the cajun fish was excellent, as were the fish and chips), and service was friendly and reasonably efficient. If you are eating indoors, upstairs has a better view. We would recommend here in preference to Swashbucklers next door - in our experience the food is better and the atmosphere more congenial.

“Simply Superb”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

My partner and I have been eating here for years. It's one of the best places in Auckland to have lunch on a sunny day due to the outside dining area overlooking Westhaven Marina. The food has been excellent every time we've dined here and the service is always equally good. There's no better way to spend a sunny afternoon, than to be by the water enjoying good food and a few quiet drinks. Highly recommended!

Remember to keep an eye out for the blue parking spaces immediately outside the building; you don't have to pay for parking in the blue spaces.

“Perfect spot for lunch on a sunny day”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

A great, unpretentious cafe to enjoy a few wines, in the sun, accompanied by fresh and delicious seafood. With views of the harbour and harbour bridge, this is a quintessentially Auckland cafe. Highly recommend

“Usually very good”
Reviewed July 27, 2012

We have dined at Billfish half-a-dozen times, and took friends there this month, who had not been before. We had told them the food and service were superb, and they had been, but we struck a day when I think new wait staff were being trained. We were shown to the table nearest the door - always a mistake in winter - where the noise and gale from the door being often opened meant we asked to move. No help was given so we made several trips to another table with water and wine glasses, our coats, and bags. The menu is extensive and well-priced; the fish is particularly good, my favourite being calamari; and the variety of tapas excellent. The wine list is priced much like any other restaurant of this nature, and a good selection. Usually the food arrives in good time, but we waited quite a while for a simple bowl of fries while we perused the menu. Likewise with our main dishes, but the food lived up to our previous visits, and even the tapas were a good size. In summer, dining on the deck overlooking the marina is very pleasant. Heaters and blankets are provided in winter, and plastic covers placed around the deck, but the temperature is warmer inside, either on the ground floor or the mezzanine. We will definitely return, but I would suggest patrons, once seated, are advised that staff is new and being trained. Had this been our first visit, we may think twice about coming back.

“Great fresh fish, cooked perfectly”
Reviewed May 19, 2012 via mobile

We ate at Billfish for a long family lunch for 8 people (all adults). For the variety of dishes ordered, the staff did a great job of sending all the dishes out at the same time and everything was cooked to perfection with well executed flavours.

Located off near the marina, it's a nice place to sit outside, watch the boats come and go and soak in the fresh air. I would choose this restaurant again rather than the busier viaduct, not only for the setting but for the fact that the food and dining experience was significantly better.
