“Interesting, delicious food. Not perfect but extremely good.”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

We went here for a special dinner, and Roxy delivered. It is housed in one of the old refurbished theatres, in its own space but sharing the building with the bustling, people watching treasure that is Everybody's (restaurant and bar). Think exposed brick, polished timber and steel (not so keen on the harsh staircase look but the rest looks great). The staff were all good but a bit mixed but some (like the sommelier) were excellent, in general not as polished or professional as some other Auckland establishments. This needs a bit of work to get consistency across the board I think.
We opted for al la carte. I had the "fish soup" which was a delight. Not a soup at all, lots of perfectly cooked morsels of seafood, with a jellied consomme (they called it a bouillabaise). Delicious. My husband had a smoked oyster entree which really delivered too. These were our highlights. For main I had lamb, which was cooked in three different ways, as was my husband's razorback pork. Some preps were more successful than others, particularly with the pig which was a little dry in two of the preparations. The other was moist, succulent and delicious. Some of my lamb could have been eaten with a spoon, it was so beautifully slow cooked. The sides for both mains were excellent, thoughtful and interesting.
The wine had some real gems and was well priced. Yay the 2001 Schuster Omihi Hills. Overall this was an excellent evening I look forward to repeating it some time soon.

“Birthday Dinner at Roxy”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

I had heard so much about Roxy, went with family to celebrate a special Birthday. Very nice ambience, though if you are seated on the wrong side all you have to look at is the deco wall of bricks which seems to be very popular just now in Auckland! We were greeted very warmly and seated on a lovely table - the waiter was very happy with the wine order and took forever getting it, serving it etc putting the order for the cocktails on the back burner. the menu was presented and the explained quite well. However, the entree took about an hour to come - we could not help wondering why since it wasnt so crowded and the kitchen looked fully staffed! We all had different entrees - i had the "rabbit" and honestly the only thing i liked were the two tiny tiny carrots! Less said about the rabbit the better! I ordered the Fish as my main and was really looking forward to a nice piece of fish - it came as some gooey creamy concoction wrapped in green and was quite awful! However, the presentation was simply marvellous - art on a plate and you did not want to touch it for fear of spoiling it - unfortunate though that it could not translate to "great food". Not even the dessert!

We took a walk next door to Everydays and it was a throbbing place, once again very nice decor and the food there looked like "food".

A lovely birthday which i wont forget in a hurry but sad the "food" was a let down

“Pleasure for the senses”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

A great little restaurant! Deco is slick and very soho, darling.
Service is top notch, polite, informative and flawless.
The 9 course degustation is a pleasure to behold. Each course was wonderfully plated and a joy to devour. Such artistry in terms of flavour matching and texture.

A great wine list and was recommended a great little Riesling by the inhouse sommelier. Auckland is very lucky to have you Roxy, please keep up the good work.

“**Roxy Rocks,very professionally**”
Reviewed June 28, 2012

My wife Margaret and I travelled from Blackwood House,Tamahere to visit this restaurant, after being recommended to do so .
Right from the outset, we were most impressed with the warm, genuine welcome by the staff .
The lovely young lady from Argentina, was most informative and helpful.
Our daughters who accompanied us for the meal, had said that Roxy Restaurant, is held in very high regard by most in the CBD.
The atmosphere, was contemporary, slick and very positive, a pleasure to visit, we will be back.
Thanking you all.
Well worthy of an awesome triple AAA, Thank you all,Allan Fitzgerald

“Very good but may not suit everyone”
Reviewed June 20, 2012

We tried Roxy on a Wednesday evening for a social/business dinner. It was not crowded and very comfortable seating with tables not jammed close together. Service was very good. The menu is innovative and stimulating. We tried the a la carte. The food arrived and was very well presented. However this is like an experiment and will not suit everyone. If you want a predictable low risk meal, this is not the restaurant. I did not enjoy aspects of the duck starter, but some portions were delicious. The beef was tasty but this is certainly not the resturant to go to for a good "traditional" beef meal. It was a creatively presented dish with modest beef content. The menu is online and can give a feel for the creativity in each dish. The wine list contains some lovely wines. The experience reminded me of an architect that designs a home he wants to win a contest with, but produces a building that is not very functional. This would suit people who wish to try dishes that are innovative and well prepared and presented. It would not suit children.
