I'm yet to find another eatery in Auckland which has taken out my personal top spot for favourite restaurant, since first dining at Ebisu.
The dishes are tastefully presented, are consistently delicious and well made. The service is attentive yet not so much that you feel rushed through your meal or hounded to keep purchasing. My favourite dishes were the Twice Cooked Pork Belly and Sashimi Tacos. Absolutely divine.
As far as value for money goes, it is not a cheap place to eat out, but as I can not being to create most of the meals on the menu myself, I am happy to pay a bit extra. The drinks are downright expensive though.

been there couple of weeks a go with 10 friends.
first of all, i really like japanese food, but the meal we had over ebisu was outstanding, every single dish was well made and tasteful!!! service was one of the best in auckland, even if my friends were very demanding the waiter managed to make everybody happy.
would definitely go back

Lovely tender terriyaki chicken, twice cooked pork belly and lamb. Food was devine. We also shared a platter. We went early which I recommend as it fulled up quickly and got a bit noisey. Its a bit pricey, but its paying for excellent food. Id definitely go again.

if you want to step outside the comfort range of traditional Japanese cuisine (and bento boxes), try Ebisu. Stylish setting and great ambience as its normally busy with an interesting and enthusiastic crowd. Food is excellent and you can choose small or large plates - the latter is great for sharing. Quite pricey if you eat a lot! Wine list is OK, but overpriced - otherwise I would have rated them 5 stars.

A style of eating & drinking not found in most formal Japanese restaurants. The bar looked very cool but we chose table in dining room for light, late dinner after day of touring. Wide range of delicious, fresh sushi choices in form of small plates as well as large plate options.Portions not large, concept is for sharing so everyone gets a little bit. One problem- if hungry you could order 4 or 5 items which can get pricey. None the less all dishes sushi, rolls, & chicken teriyaki tasted fantastic. The presentation was most impressive as well. A real surprise.
Save room for dessert! We ordered dessert because we were still hungry. Again, presentation almost as brilliant as flavors.
One small issue. be sure to check your bill. There was charge for extra beer($10.00) . Unfortunately took server 15 minutes to remove from tab.
