We stop here for cheese and ice cream. A kiwi tradition. The washed rind cheese is one of my very faves.

I've had lunch here many times in the past for the beautiful view and cafe food. Sadly, they have recently cut the menu down to cheese platters and cabinet food - which is okay, but not worth leaving home for. Now, I would suggest stopping in here for a coffee and the kids to have a play, before driving up to Matakana for a proper lunch!

This cafe attached to a cheese factory has been turned into a real winner. First, it is a great place to buy Puhoi's award winning cheeses and ice cream. Several cheeses sold here cannot be purchased in most stores. The blues are magnificent. The award wining ice cream is also to die for. Second, very good cabinet food, many with cheese. Yes, prices are little on the high side, but the cafe does pitch to an upmarket clientele. For those seeking cheaper fare, call in to the Puhoi Pub.

Puhoi village is worth a visit, especially when the farmers market is on. The cheese at the cheese factory/store is also very good. The food in the cafe however is very average and the service on the day we went was extremely slow, so much so that I had to eventually get up and enquire as to whether our food was coming at all. Also tried the icecream which seemed to be going down well with other patrons. Frankly I like my icecream less sugary and more flavour and it made me feel quite unwell later in the day. We would buy cheese but frankly nothing else here. They could do so much better.

Went for a quick lunch. We had the platter but the order was confused. The waiter handled it really well. We accepted the wrong order but he went beyond what was required and brought additional meats out to compliment what we had. He was very concerned to ensure we were happy and this was much appreciated. In the end we were more than happy with the food, the service and the venue.
