My husband and I stayed in the Waitemata room: with its pretty French Antique bed and period accessories, it was intimate and fancy. The wallpaper has an antique dressing mirror design with lots of gold leaf- totally unique and of the era! There is a complimentary decanter of port in the room, which added a lovely touch.
Judy is a kind and helpful proprietor. She makes a beautiful breakfast and is at ease in sharing her home with guests.
Stanley the dog should get a special mention- I could have cuddled him all day long!

We had high tea here for my friends birthday and it was amazing. We arrived at the beautiful historic villa and were warmly greeted by the staff. We each got to choose a fancy hat to wear which really added to the ladylike theme of the afternoon. The food was beautiful and the service impeccable. Very convenient location if you are arriving by ferry - only a 3 min walk. A lovely memorable day in a gorgeous setting.

Judy couldn't have been more lovely, from her warm welcome to the fond farewells! Accomodation was fantastic, every care and attention has been taken to create lovely rooms with everything you need, and more. Breakfasts were huge and delicious, setting us up nicely for long days in the city. Very gracious hostess, only down side is that it made it harder to leave NZ!

I booked this fantastic B&B for our 25th wedding anniversary. Couldn't have done any better!
Not only is it a beautiful home, Judy is a warm and friendly host. We stayed in the Albert room, beautifully furnished down to the smallest detail. And the big bath was a luxury!
Breakfast was delicious (best pancakes and waffles I've ever had) and we really enjoyed the chance to sit at the larger table and chat with our fellow guests.
The B&B is very well located and easy to find with lots of excellent restaurants within a block or two.
We'll be back!

I was fortunate enough to be taken to the Peace and Plenty Inn for their Devonshire tea on Saturday, and I can only say what a complete and utter delight it was.

Walking up the path to the front door of the Inn transported this 'Home Counties' English girl back to traditional English gardens; with the soft scent of lavender, crunchy gravel path and dappled sunlight overhead. The door was open on the veranda, welcoming you into the impeccably presented interior of shiny wooden floors, decorative rugs, warmly coloured lamps and huge mirrors. It was the perfect mix of decadent and comfortable, and I loved it immediately.

Every detail is well thought out, interesting and beautiful. The table was perfectly set with polished cutlery, pretty china, a silver teapot and strainer, and the most incredible collection of homemade cakes, sandwiches and chocolates.

The sound of birds calling, and insects buzzing gently around the pretty garden flowers gave the perfect soundtrack to a peaceful, yet wonderful indulgent experience.

And a wonderful, quirky addition to typical afternoon tea offerings was to provide the option of borrowing fancy hats in order to make the event seem even more special. The Inn has a collection of head-wear, with hats ranging from the comical to the divine, and it was a huge amount of fun to try on different hats for the occasion.

I settled on a large purple hat one with silk flowers and a curling feather which made me feel very genteel... I even managed to convince my boyfriend (with slightly rolling eyes from him) to don one of the top hats that are available for gentlemen.

The welcome was as warm and homely as the decor, and the food was exquisite. We were bought warm scones to go with our cream and jam, and a glass of rather delicious bubbles after our steaming hot tea, by smiling, friendly ladies who mastered that incredible art of being on hand whenever you might need something, but blending into the background when you did not: Perfect service.

I cannot recommend the Devonshire Tea at Peace and Plenty Inn enough, and am already planning to go back with friends for delicious food, excellent service and entertaining hat wearing.

We left that afternoon incredibly full, very content, full of smiles and thoroughly enchanted by the place, and I would defy anyone not to be a bit captivated by its charm.
