“An oasis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2014

What a beautiful resort, set in extensive grounds with a lovely modern hotel screened by trees. An award winning Eco friendly resort which has it's own organic farm and also makes it's own toiletries which were wonderful. So much to see in the Malaysian village, so many different activities to try out including bamboo pole dancing - on the ground - garland making, food tasting etc. the cultural show was outstanding for its musicality and professionalism. Such a colourful sight. We ate in the restaurant on both nights of our stay and the food was not expensive and really delicious. Breakfast was excellent too. Bedroom was huge and very comfortable. The bathroom had a walk in shower in addition to a bath. A wonderful place to visit. Can't recommend it highly enough. Should also mention the staff who were charming, polite and helpful at all times.

We stayed for two nights and the experience was unforgettable! Great staff, excellent room and service, great food and the spa was my best ever!
This hotel will show you much of the original Thai history and their show was also great.
Long to be back.

This hotel is in a garden by Nakhon Chaisri river, not far from Bangkok. It's a nicely decorated hotel. It's a good place to relax, read books, ride a bicycle, etc. Anyway when there's an event (e.g. wedding, new year party) at this place, it can be really noisy. The buffet breakfast is fairly good.

We only stopped by for the Thai cooking lessons, but my wife was sick with food poisoning contracted in Bangkok. The manager and staff at the resort were so very kind and caring. The nurse provided my wife with medications and the manager refused any payment. I was really impressed by everyone I met - what a positive experience. I took the time to wander the beautiful gardens and take a few photographs.

This was my 10th visit since 2001 and I come here for the peace and tranquility. The on-going discount and free internet were much appreciated. I no longer visit the attractions as I have seen them all before. The food remains good and the service is excellent. Don't know why some people complain as this is the best hotel in the Nakhon Pathom area by a distance. English is well spoken by enough of the staff to make communication easy. Hope to be back next year as usual.

The room was good for the price and the property sits on a picturesque site overlooking a river.
Check-in was smooth, but from there it was all downhill.
The "chef" thought it was a good idea to crucify the "French onion soup" with 2 cloves. Not 2 garlic cloves but 2 cloves as in Syzygium aromaticum used for toothache.
A complimentary welcome "drink on us" was given on check-in redeemable at the piano bar from 12noon to 10.00pm.
Regrettably the bar was closed during my one day stay and an inquiry at the restaurant as to the voucher met with an "Well, I can't help."
The restaurant is 3 star and the reception staff need a lesson in human relations.
This is a pity because the hotel has potential as a value stopover.
In summary I cannot recommend this hotel.

To be clear, this is only a review of the 10AM-12PM "Morning Workshop" daily arts and crafts experience, NOT a review of the hotel, the show, or the place in general.

First of all, when we called on the phone, we were told that it cost 550 baht to enter the Thai Village section of Sampran Riverside. We were not told that it was an extra 50 each just to enter the Sampran Riverside complex itself, nor that the Morning Workshop and afternoon Thai Village Show were 550 baht EACH.

The arts and crafts experiences themselves were for the most part extremely boring, largely due to the general disinterest of the staff. At the Muay Thai booth, the teenager in charge walked up to a punching bag, said "Muay Thai" blandly, kicked the bag, and then helped us put on boxing gloves so we could take pictures. At the swordplay booth, again, two very unimpressive young men did a three move, ten second routine, then gave us the swords to entertain ourselves with. They stared at us blankly when we asked if we could see them use the other weapons hanging about. The herbal compress man explained to us what was in the compresses, but didn't let us make one; he also extolled how great they are when steamed and pretended to rub one all over himself. However, he didn't steam one or let us try anything. At the umbrella station, we were allowed to paint six strokes on a piece of paper taped to an umbrella. The silk station was pure spectator sport; at the bamboo art station, the workers pretty much assembled everything for you; the cooking station consisted of mashing a single banana; "farming" meant smashing the hulls off some rice with a pestle; "vegetable carving," which only women are allowed to participate in, meant trying your best to keep up with a teacher, herself busy gossiping with the other staff just sitting there.

Only a few of the activities were not total failures: the bamboo dance section wasn't too bad, nor was the Thai dance, and at the pottery section you actually get to make your own clay cup. Still, the whole time, hardly any of the staff (even our assigned guide!) spoke English, very few showed us anything interesting or worthwhile.

I should mention that my two friends and I were the only guests there. If service is this bad when there are no crowds, I can't imagine how terrible it must be in high season.

In summary, there is almost no truth at all to the following statement from their website:

"There are trained staff at each station to demonstrate the activity and provide information so you are able to obtain a full hands on experience"

The only reason that I gave Sampran Riverside two stars rather than one is that it might be fun to do with children. Actually, a class of Thai kindergartners arrived shortly after we did. At least they had a blast.

We are really sorry to hear that our art and craft workshops did not provide you with a full experience that was expected and would like to thank you for sharing your honest and detailed feedback with us. We have taken your comments to our management so we can outline any necessary improvements that need to be taken regarding our staff at the Thai Village.
Kind regards
