Woodlands Rainforest Retreat
Reviewed November 14, 2013

It was cold and raining when we arrived, so we were very happy to find a fire already burning in the open fireplace. A lovely touch. The bungalow was warm and cosy and very private, surrounded by rainforest and overlooking a small lake. The only sounds we heard the whole time we were there were birds, frogs and the rain.
The kitchen was simple but well equipped and the furnishings were all tasteful and comfortable (the king-size bed was nothing short of luxurious!)
The staff were friendly and helpful and respectful of our privacy. They were always available if we needed or wanted anything, but left us in peace.
The best bit though was the large sunken spa bath in the huge bathroom with floor to ceiling windows looking out into the rainforest, and a heated tile floor (really appreciated first thing in the morning!).
The other best thing (if we’re allowed two) was the 12 o’clock check-out. This meant we could sleep in and enjoy a relaxed breakfast (which we made with the local produce provided) before heading home.
We’ll definitely be returning in the summer, so we can fire up the barbecue and enjoy the views from the deck.

My partner and I just wanted to get away, and this place is so secluded, you feel like there's no one for miles. I loved not being disturbed by housekeeping or room service. The bed is so comfy and large - with electric blankets! Having the fire and the tv, it was just to die for. The bathtub does fill with brown water but this is expected - and was perfectly fine. Cannot believe how beautiful this place is, we will definitely be back!!. Definitely a little overpriced though.

Room Tip: P.S We stayed in laughing ducks - it's the one by the lake, if you want a water view request thi...

It was such a great little place! us newly weds were fortunate to get the winter 2 days get-away deal otherwise we would not be able to afford to stay there! It was simply great though and would highly recommend it to others but the price is way too expensive. Jeff and Lyanne were great keepers of the place and they really made us feel very welcome there! We love the birds coming right to our balcony table when we sit out there for a hot cup of cocoa. Would definitely visit again if their prices were a little more affordable.

Just got back from two days away with the wife !

Was a great place to unwind from the hustle and bustle for a couple of days service was good and the room was prepared well with open fire and music going on arrival but I must say I do agree with a couple of the other reviews in regards to it being dated, overpriced and the spa filling with brown water, I think for the money you should get the wow factor but unfortunately this did fall short.

My wife and I just spent a 3 day relaxation getaway at this wonderful winter forest retreat.
What an absolute idyllic country retreat. It was relaxing, indulgent and totally rejuvenating.
We could not have hoped for anything better - great accommodation, wonderful open fireplace, exquisite floor level spa with the option of an open door to the surrounding landscape.
For the people who are stressed in their jobs, this is the ideal getaway to forget about the worries of the world. The facilities are second to none. Here was nothing we wanted more. Privacy was a standout. Heated bathroom tiles were an extra touch. We spent 2 nights in the sunken spa with Champagne, the dark night and the wonderful piped relaxation music.
We will be back. Special thanks to Geoff ( the resident caretaker ) - he is a great guy ; catering to your every need.
We will be back

My partner and I recently stayed at Woodlands for two nights and I have to say- it was perfect. Geoff was friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived and gave us all the information we needed. Our bungalow was warm, cosy, romantic and luxurious and it felt like we were the only two in the rainforest. The huge spa and open fire were our favourite.

The fresh bread and paper each morning was also a nice touch and being able to make breakfast with the supplies in the fridge was great. I would recommend the dinner hamper as once you arrive you won't want to leave again and the quality of food was excellent.

Thanks for a great stay!

To be honest, we'd booked to go to this weekender several months ago as a gift to my husband for his birthday, and with the prices - it was a treat as the prices are pretty high, and then after booking it, I read the reviews on Trip Advisor, and was a little concerned about the fact that we'd booked it as the reviews weren't great! Esp one below....

BUT - I have to say, we just spent two nights there this past weekend, and the property was exceptional and totally relaxing, luxurious, with thoughtful accommodation and totally private.

We arrived at 7pm ( dark) to be greeted by Geoff, who made a big effort in our arrival, and who was friendly and inviting, and gave us lots of tips of the area, and was generally concerned about if we'd eaten. We were ok - and made our way to our bungalow further down into the property titled: WHISPERING WATTLE.
We walked inside - and to our delight, Geoff had made every effort to have the best arrival awaiting us - dimly lit ( perfectly lit with lights dimmed down), fireplace crackling, classical music playing softly, outside lights ready to welcome us, and everything set out perfectly.
The bungalow is well thought out - with lots of windows looking out to the forest/ferneries outside, and enough blinds/curtains to shut it out for a late sleep-in.
All tea-coffee making facilities were abundant ( some places give you just two tea bags) and plenty of fresh bread from Yarra valley, heaps of eggs, a full carton of milk and jams, butter, fresh orange juice and more!
To our delight - a really lovely touch was a fresh loaf of bread and the daily The Age newspaper delivered on our doorstep each morning! Really nice touch Geoff!
The rooms are elegant, wooden floorboards and panelling, and really comfortable, they totally match with the surrounds of the property - it was clean, comfortable, really cosy and really well done! Thoughful architecture and planning - from the sunken bathtub/spa with glassed walls which you can open up - to the surround sound and speakers in every aspect of the bungalow to the layout of the bed with day windows, to the heated floors, to the spacious outside balcony/terrace with seating and BBQ.
We were really happy and really delighted with our bungalow, it was a very enjoyable stay and we really loved the surrounds, it's so private and well thought-out and we had a very romantic time - who couldn't with an open roaring fire, hot spa opening out to the night air, backlit ferneries outside, champagne and soft music and a private spot of the Black Spur forest just for us!
We would definitely recommend this place to our friends and already have.

NOTE TO MANAGERS - the prices are a little too high, we booked through a wholesaler online and didn't book through your website.... but comparative to other places within Victoria, it should be comparable to other 5 star properties - and perhaps no more than $400 per night!

NOTE TO ANYONE WANTING TO STAY: it's a beautiful timber bungalow that is very warm and cosy with an open fireplace, sunken spa tub, lots of privacy and right in the middle of the Black spur forest - very romantic and very enjoyable!
Make sure you go out for a walk at night and catch sight of a wombat or wallaby!

We will be back!

Room Tip: We stayed at Whispering Wattles - it was the furthest bungalow and it was very private!
